My Review of "Date Night"
This is wacky comedy of its time. They don't make them like this anymore.

Date Night is a comedy that was released back in 2010. It is definitely a product of its time but they don't make comedies like this anymore either. It's not like it's super offensive but they do a lot of wacky comedy bits that are non sensical. In today's day in age everything has to be logical to make sense to this new autistic generation. This just won't fly with a lot of viewers nowadays.
The movie starts out with the introductions of our married couple Phil and Claire. They've been married for quite a while and they seem like a well oiled machine. Each of them are quite proficient in their parental roles but you can tell that there's a bit of a disconnect between the two.
They both still love each other but when they go to a friend's party they get a rude awakening when one of their couple friends is getting a surprise divorce. It hits hard to them because they're very much like their couple friends so they're a little bit worried about their own marriage.
This prompts them to have a date night together. Due to their anxiety of losing each other the two kind of let loose a little. They take the reservations of another couple at a prestigious restaurant in the city and have a night out. The problem is that they assumed the identities of a couple that are wanted by some bad people.
Pretty soon the innocent date night turns out to become a wild ride of trying to clear their name and get back to their normal boring lives. While all this is going on the two explore their relationship and figure out where they stand with each other.
You can't really classify this as a romantic comedy as the couple is already married and in love. These two have built their anxiety off of the social surroundings they're involved in. Though it's really nice to see them explore their own problems and even figure out what's needs to be done to help them spice up their relationship.
A lot of the comedy comes from the antics that you see the couple get into. The majority of the scenarios are very nonsensical but fun nonetheless. It's a time right before social media really started to blast off so those of you that remember this time will be transported to a more innocent time. This was very much the case for me. It was like traveling back into time.
The laughs are still there despite the passage of time. Much of the comedy and heart of the movie comes from the charisma and chemistry of the two leads. In fact all of the actors and actresses do a great job in giving life to this movie. There is a ton of heart that makes you fall in love with this movie.
As a side note there are a ton of celebrity cameos in this movie as well. At the time none of these cameos were intentional. Many of them were just breaking into the industry. You'll see some people that became bigger stars after this movie. It's kind of really cool to see this many people from this movie advanced so well in their careers.
Overall, this was a fun blast from the past. A lot of the jokes are quite nonsensical and I liked it that way. You shouldn't have to think that hard all the time during a comedy. If you can let yourself loose and just take it for what it is you will have a great time with this one. I have to give this movie a 7 out of 10. I can see myself going back to this one but not anytime soon.
