My Review of "Becky"
This is a surprisingly entertaining B movie. You need to know what you're getting into.

Becky is an action movie that came out in 2020. I've never heard of this movie before but I noticed that the sequel is already out. If it has a sequel the first one has to be okay right? Why would they make a sequel if the didn't think they'd have an audience.
The movie starts off with a troubled girl named Becky. At first, I thought she was being a typical snotty teenager brat but there's more to it than that. She's just recently lost her mother to some illness that I'm assuming is cancer. Her relationship with her father, Jeff, is also strained. I didn't understand that until we discover that he's found a new love in his life, Kayla.
Jeff takes her out of school early one day to take her out to their family cottage. There he wants to bring up the big news that he's going to get married to Kayla. Of course, Becky is extremely distraught about this news and hides herself in her fort out in the wilderness.
Meanwhile there's this mean prison gang that escapes into the wild. They are hellbent on finding some mysterious key and that just so happens to be in the house that Becky's family is at. You can tell what's going to happen next.
It's a very simple storyline and it's only to get to the gruesome violence and ridiculous situations that they find themselves in. This is by no means a great movie. If you know what you're getting yourself into this can be a very fun ride. There are plot holes everywhere but that's not what people are coming here to see. They want to see a little girl with no skills become a semi-lucky no nonsense killer.
I guess it would lose some points because I think this was meant to be a horror movie. There is no horror in this movie at all. It's more ridiculous situations that evolve into some good intensity and anticipation. As a person that doesn't really like horror movies I was happy about this. There are no jump scares. The scariest this movie gets is the mood, intensity and some gore in some pretty violent scenes.
This is not a movie for the squeamish. There are scenes here that do look quite gross. I give this movie a pass for these gross scenes because the bad guys deserve it. There is one redemption arc in this movie that is played out pretty well. None of it can be taken pretty seriously though. There were more than one occasion where I chuckled or even outright laughed at one should have been serious scenes.
If I'm laughing at this movie even though it's supposed to be a serious movie that means I'm having fun. At no part of this movie was there a boring moment. The runtime is quite short so it will fly by pretty fast as well. Despite the short runtime, I thought the pacing of this movie was really well done as well. It was the perfect run duration of this type of movie.
Some of the special effects may seem very low budget. It's pretty obvious that this is a low budget movie. They did a commendable job for the budget that they were given. I think they maximized every dollar that went into this movie and a great job at that.
Overall, I didn't know what I was going to get when watching this movie but I'm happy I went in and tried it out. It was a really fun ride from beginning to end. If you're okay with violence and dumb fun then I think you'll enjoy this one. It's not a great movie but it is a fun one. That's why I have to give this one a 6.5 out of 10.
