Lauren Sánchez Switches Up Style During Launch of ‘Powerful’ Career Venture
Jeff Bezos’ wife toned down her daring fashion vibe for a Scholastic event.

Lauren Sánchez debuted a sudden style switch up while kicking off a major career venture via a partnership with Scholastic.
On Tuesday, Sept. 9, Jeff Bezos‘ wife, 55, met with students at Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School in New London, Conn., after Scholastic named her a Literacy Champion for The United States of Readers.
After the event, Lauren Sánchez took to Instagram on Sept. 10 with a video and a message, writing, “Thank you, Scholastic, for including me in your mission. To the kids: buckle up…Flynn’s adventures are coming your way.”
Lauren Sánchez added, “And a huge thank you to Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School for welcoming me into your classrooms yesterday. Reading with your students was pure joy. 💛.” In the clip, the journalist read from her children’s book The Fly Who Flew to Space, which features a fly named Flynn.
Known for her high profile red carpet appearances and glamorous looks, Lauren Sánchez opted for a more understated, professional style during her visit to Winthrop STEM Elementary, donning a white, collared button up dress shirt tucked into a pair of jeans, a black belt and a pair of sneakers. Additionally, she wore her long, brunette hair pulled back for the occasion and accessorized with simple jewelry.
“Partnering with Scholastic on the United States of Readers program is truly an honor,” Lauren Sánchez said in a news release. "As a mother, I know how powerful books can be in shaping a child’s world, and as an author I understand that literacy is the foundation for success in school and in life."

As part of her Scholastic collaboration, The Fly Who Flew to Space and its Spanish edition, La Mosca Que Voló al Espacio, are available to students through the United States of Readers.
“As a pilot, an author, and an advocate for children, Lauren Sánchez Bezos understands that all kids need both excellent academic reading instruction and the opportunity to choose and own the books that will motivate them to read,” said Judy Newman, Scholastic’s chief impact officer, in the news release.
Newman continued, “Lauren’s commitment to literacy for all children—with a special focus on children attending under resourced schools—is inspiring and truly impactful. We are thrilled to collaborate with Lauren and her character Flynn to raise awareness and create more motivating opportunities for all kids to exercise their choosing muscles and become lifelong readers.”
The visit marked a meaningful moment in Sánchez’s public life, as it highlighted a shift toward hands on educational advocacy rather than red carpet appearances. By stepping directly into classrooms and reading alongside students, she reinforced the message that literacy is not an abstract concept, but a daily experience that can spark imagination, confidence, and curiosity.
Educators at Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School emphasized the importance of students meeting authors in person, noting that such experiences often encourage children to see reading as exciting and personal rather than routine. Sánchez’s presence helped bridge the gap between storytelling and real world inspiration, especially for students interested in science, space, and exploration.
The United States of Readers initiative aims to expand access to books in communities where resources are limited, ensuring that children can build home libraries of their own. By including both English and Spanish editions of Sánchez’s book, the program also acknowledges the importance of language inclusion and cultural connection in early reading development.

Lauren Sánchez’s background as a pilot and journalist adds another layer to her involvement in the program. Her personal story reflects the value of education, perseverance, and curiosity, qualities that align closely with the themes presented in The Fly Who Flew to Space. Through Flynn’s journey, young readers are encouraged to dream big while learning that exploration begins with knowledge.
As literacy challenges continue to affect schools across the country, partnerships between public figures and educational organizations play a growing role in raising awareness. Sánchez’s collaboration with Scholastic positions her as a visible advocate for reading, using her platform to promote long term learning rather than short term attention.
