Oscars in the 80s
In 1981, two films were released that captured the hearts of movie goers: Chariots of Fire and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Chariots of Fire won four Oscars including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Score, and Best Costume Design. Raiders of the Lost Ark also won four Oscars including Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Editing, and Best Art Direction. There is no doubt in my mind that these were the best two films of that year; However, I disagree with the "Best Picture" choice. Had I the power of deciding winners, the Best Picture Oscar would have gone to Raiders of the Lost Ark. This seems so blatantly obvious to me that I have to wonder if the Academy's choices are based on how the audiences will truly react to a film or if the Academy is just using these awards to promote a good film that isn't received as well as they think it should be. After looking at many years of Academy Award decisions, I tend to believe that the latter is truer—that the Oscars are generally just a promotional campaign to let the public know what they "should" be watching and what they "should" be liking, and not really taking into account what they "really" watch and what they "really" enjoy. For myself, this could not be more true, as I have often indulged in films that are never even nominated while only watching some films that I never knew of just because they were either nominated or won an award. I don't think I'm alone in this perception or behavior.

Academy Awards Through Time
This evening I spent the last 3 hours scouring over the past 45 years of Academy Award winners. The reason I didn't go further back is because I wanted to know what and who has won since I've been alive. I wanted to see if I agreed with the Academy's choices based on what I know of the movies and actors or actresses. I got very passionate about some of my opinions and decided to write a series of articles expressing those opinions, this one being the first of that series.

Movie Review: 'The Ballad of Lefty Brown'
The Ballad of Lefty Brown is a rough and tumble, old school western, directed with love and reverence for the genre. Writer-Director Jared Moshe in his second feature, and his second western, following his debut feature Dead Man’s Burden, clearly loves and respects westerns. The Ballad of Lefty Brown, while entertaining in its own right, is a tribute to westerns dating back to the 30s and 40s all the way through the Eastwood era of the 60s and 90s.

10 Characters That Broke the 4th Wall
The fourth wall is nothing new. It exists in cinema, movies, TV, comic books, novels, video games, and more and is a rudimental convention of the stage and screen. The fundamentals behind it describe how the action is contained within a set three walls and an invisible fourth wall separating the actors on stage from the audience.

Oscars Countdown: 'Phantom Thread'
Phantom Thread is one of those movies that makes over half its box office earnings from people doing their Oscars homework, myself included. Seeing this one was more of a requirement than anything else, just to end up saying I went 9/9 on Best Picture nominees. And of course, Phantom Thread ends up being great. Homework or not, I loved this bizarrely beautiful movie. It’s important to note how I went in blind as can be. I knew literally nothing about Phantom Thread, outside of Daniel Day-Lewis allegedly retiring after the production. And I strongly recommend seeing this film knowing as little as possible. That’s an odd way to lead off a review, as I’d certainly like you to stick around, but Phantom Thread’s delightful oddities most strongly impact the unsuspecting.

Diary of a Dungeoneer
Allow me to introduce myself, I am Borien Steelbeard and I am a Dwelf. What is a Dwelf I hear you ask? Well a Dwelf is what happens when an Elf gets stupidly drunk and has “a good time” with a 400lb Dwarf; what can I say for a Dwarf my mum was a looker, and my dad had a thing for beards.

Samurai Jessie: Origins P2
Maya and Dan were running on foot while Richard and his goons jumped in a black SUV. It didn’t take long for Richard to catch up to them. They chased them into an alley and blocked it off. Richard, Greg, and Toni got out of the car. Greg and Toni each grabbed a pipe that was lying on the ground. Maya and Dan nervously looked around for something to arm themselves with and each found something. Maya picked up a piece of pipe and Dan picked up a broken umbrella. Greg and Toni looked at each other and busted out laughing. Maya and Dan looked at each other and Maya nodded her head towards Dan’s weapon of choice. Dan said, “Oh. Right.” and he dropped the umbrella and picked up a wooden plank. “Now I’m ready,” he said. Maya put her hand on her face and groaned.

Sophocles' 'Antigone' Told Through GIFs From 'Parks and Rec'
If you've been assigned to read Antigone for a class, you may be looking for an easy way to understand it. The following is a (very simplified) explanation. Of course, I encourage you to read the play itself, but this may help you out with the general plot so you can spend more time on analysis.
