'That Inevitable Victorian Thing' by E K Johnston
I hate to be sanctimonious about it, but it turns out that good conversation solved a great many problems. That Inevitable Victorian Thing, by Canadian novelist E. K. Johnston, tells the story of a world where the British Empire never fell and technology dictates whom the royal heirs may marry based on genetic compatibility. It's a world in a which Queen Victoria I recognized the political advantages of marrying her children to political leaders throughout the empire, not just in Europe, regardless of race and in which the more diverse your genetic makeup, the more desirable you are. Several generations later, the story focuses on the young heir to the thrown, Victoria-Magaret, posing as a commoner for her last summer of freedom before she comes on age and must enter in her adult career as the future Empress. She meets two friends who not only change her future, but may possibly change the world.

Surprise by Netflix: 'Seven Deadly Sins'
Seven Deadly Sins The first time I heard of such thing as "Netflix original anime," I could not hold back a snort. Although a fan of most original content Netflix offers, I could not combine three words together. While there are plenty of great series made in Europe, such as my personal all-time favourite Oban Star Racers, I had no faith Netflix could do a good job. To save myself time and disappointment, I decided not to bother.

Luna vs. Hermione
Luna and Hermione are the two of the main heroines of the Harry Potter series. Luna is a true Ravenclaw and, as we all know, Hermione was a Hat Stall and was considered for the same House, but got sorted into Gryffindor in the end. Even though Hermione is an intelligent and hardworking student, she would never have been a true Ravenclaw. The two are crucial when it comes to the group responsible to Voldemort's downfall. This is because, even though they are intelligent, they both have a very different way of thinking and approaching situations.

Walker Stalker Con and Heroes & Villains Fan Fest Chicago 2018
***Disclosure: I received a 2-day Media Pass for Fan Fest 2018. All the opinions are my own*** This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend my very first Fan Fest Event. I was thrilled to learn both Walker Stalker Con, and Heroes & Villains would take place under one roof. I honestly didn't know what to expect when I walked through those doors. Being a huge fan of Arrow and The Walking Dead, I knew it couldn’t be anything short of amazing!

Golden Days of Hollywood. Top Story - April 2018.
In the early days of Hollywood when everything was just coming together, actors and actresses were adored by fans and they all seemed to put them on pedestals. Two such film actors were a much-admired couple: Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks. When they got married and went to London, England for their honeymoon on June 21st, 1920, they were greeted by lots of admiring fans. Since 1919, Pickford and Fairbanks had been business partners who got together with Charlie Chaplin and director D.W. Griffith to set up United Artists. After the couple got married, Fairbanks gave Pickford a 22 room estate as a wedding present, which included the first swimming pool in Beverly Hills located in Los Angeles, California. They named the property “Pickfair.”

The Fall of Channel Awesome
Breaking down the Google document which highlighted in detail the issues that producers had with Channel Awesome, it can basically be broken down into two categories. You have the majority of the female producers who experienced some form of discrimination from the management of said company, either through their video contributions being mishandled, or in some cases sexual harassment and apparent attempts to actively demean them on camera for the sake of a production (refer to Lindsey Ellis’ “To Boldly Flee” complaint). The male producers, being category 2, suffered a different form of blatant disrespect; a failure in communication. You can read that here.

Ranking the Movies of 2018: Week 14
Those who follow this column closely will notice that Ready Player One has dropped on the list. The more I sit with Ready Player One, the more I don’t care for it. I had a reckoning with my feelings about Ready Player One two weeks ago and at that time I felt that the quality of the adventure in Ready Player One was enough for me to give the movie a pass.
