The Gatsby Complex
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald encompasses a variety of themes including the glorification of wealth, romanticization of unrequited love, and the pursuit of the American dream—to name a few among many. However, one theme that is often overshadowed by the ones listed above is the theme of idolizing something that simply doesn't live up to one's perceived expectations of it. For instance, Jay Gatsby internalized the notion that Daisy Buchanan, the girl he dreamt his whole life of being with, was nothing short of idealized perfection. However, for anyone that has read the book, this simply doesn't hold true—Gatsby idolized Daisy and wound up with a relationship that didn't live up to his expectations. This isn't something that only occurred in the roaring 20s, a period of wealth, abundance, and jazz, but is a recurring aspect that follows us even to this day and age.

Movie Review: 'Breaking In'
Breaking In stars Gabrielle Union as Shaun Russell, a mother of two whose estranged father supposedly was killed in a hit and run accident. But we know what really happened. An opening scene finds the father on a run when he’s hit by a truck driven by Eddie (Billy Burke), an ex-con after the father’s hidden cash. The cash is hidden in the father’s vacation home, which places Shaun and Eddie on an unwitting collision course.

How NOT to Stalk Your Favorite Actors
According to Kant’s “categorical imperative,” when making a decision, consequences are the most important part of making a decision. So, if someone wants to break the law, it’s okay as long as no one is hurt (For example, if someone wants to steal a small loaf of bread from the store). As a rebellious college student, I can completely relate to Kant’s theory.

Your Next Obsession: Korean Dramas
While I was in college, I stumbled upon a new genre of shows after completing a good amount of American television shows. That genre happened to be Korean dramas (K-Dramas) and they have become one of my favorite new genres of television to watch. They are filled with over-the-top drama, lots of outrageous situations, and love stories that never get old. Here are my top five picks that got me sucked into this new genre.

The Origins of Fandom: Past, Present, or Future?
‘Ello lovely readers! Today I thought I’d write about a topic that I’m sure all of us will be aware of one way or another: fandom! We are all fans of something, whether it be music, films, books, sport, or (heaven forbid) reality TV. We are all, in some way, part of a fandom. But what is a fandom? Where did it come from? What can we learn from being in a fandom, or being on the outside? These are the questions I’ve been asking myself recently, so I thought I’d do a bit of digging.

My Boyfriend Makes Me Watch Ridiculous Movies: 'Demolition Man'
I got a choice this week! I won’t tell you the other ones since I’ll have to watch them all eventually (Spoilers? Me? Never!), but this week Rico and I settled on the Sylvester Stallone/Wesley Snipes classic Demolition Man. The reason I chose this over the others is simple: Rico had a friend visiting from out of town and commented this after using the restroom:

Armored Blue Ranger Cosplay
2017 was a great year for me in cosplay. Meeting people and having the time of my life. There was one particular cosplay that I wanted to do for months and that was the Armored Blue Ranger. The reason was that you hardly see one at a convention or online. So why did I decide to add the armor to my Blue Ranger suit?

Cosplay = Confidence
Back in 2013, one of my friends introduced me to cosplay, and at the time, I didn't know what it was. So I went online and searched images of people doing cosplay. I was impressed and wanted to dress up as my favorite characters. I didn't attend any conventions that year, because I wanted to come up with some cosplay ideas of my own first.
