Invented Original Characters: Shinji Miyazaki

Bringing my original comic characters to life with iPhone apps, tablet apps and zero artistic ability

Growing up my dream job was to be a comic book artist/writer. But with very little artistic talent that dream died pretty quickly. Now I do my best to bring my characters to life using apps like factory of heroes, swordmaker, armormaker, you doodle and photo cutout. They don't always turn out looking very good but I get more excited about the concepts and stories behind the characters than how well I can make the character look good. Sometimes my characters are from cultures I am not a part of because I think it fits their story or other aspects about them. I am not a cultural expert but at the very least I hope no one is upset by me using aspects of cultures I'm not a part of and find interesting. That said below is my original character Shinji Miyazaki.

Shinji lived a simple life raised by a single mother for the first 20 years of his life until the passing of his estranged father changed his life forever. Shinji soon learned that he was heir powerful Japanese company and a vampire hunting legacy. Shortly after settling him and his mother in their new life, his company office was visited by a man who appeared to be a Buddhist monk. This man named Shi Yan Chen told Shinji about his father. Shinji learned that his father was estranged to keep him and his mother safe from the moth like vampires that his family has hunted for generations. But now that he was the last of his line it was his responsibility to use his company's resources to become an "owl", a vampire hunter the moth vampires of Japan hate and fear. He further explained that his ancestors and Shinji's ancestors long created turmoil between the Japanese moth vampires and Chinese leech vampires so that their resources were spent fighting each other instead of doing greater harm to humans.

Since becoming an owl Shinji adopted his father's vampire hunting arsenal. All of which were specialized to kill moth vampires. Despite there extreme supernatural power a curse has made moth vampires weak to lacquer and camphor. So when Shinji hunts he wears his father's owl themed samurai armor and wields his father's kanabō and katana all of which are coated in lacquer. He also carries small explosives consisting of gunpowder and camphor wrapped in torinoko paper. When lit and exploded these weapons produces a smoke that is dangerous to humans but can be lethal to moth vampires. Shinji's armor, katana and kanabō are mostly antique aside from the fresh layers of lacquer he adds periodically as well as modern earplugs and googles he can equip from his helmet to contest with moth vampires camouflage and sonic attacks.

Despite looking like a samurai Shinji doesn't fight like one. Growing up as an undersized kid in a poor neighborhood Shinji could scrap for as long as he could remember. This translates to Shinji's unorthodox, unpredictable and deadly combat style. Most often he fights with his kanabō in his left hand, his katana underhand in the right, ocasionally throwing either. At times using the katana's case almost as lethally as the sword itself. Jumping, spinning, slashing and bludgeoning Shinji is a whirlwind of death when fighting moth vampires. Yet to Shi Yan Chen's amazement, Shinji doesn't seem to ever stop smiling and can never resist cracking jokes. Shi Yan Chen is terrified he'll see a day where Shinji stops smiling but nevertheless, the work they do in Japan and China, together or apart is too important to stop so they must persist no matter the danger.
