I’ve watched Grey's Anatomy full series at least four times. I have spent so much of my down time watching Merideth Greys life, family, and friends. The music in some episodes just draws you in. I've tried to watch scenes without feeling any kind of emotion, but the music gets you. The never ending tunes of acoustic guitar or piano playing behind moments of life and death. I actually find Merideth annoying. I don't think I like any character in the TV show. They are all rude and in their own way mean and have betrayed a friend. The only innocent character I can think of is Lexi Grey, Meredith's half sister. Whom she hated at first for no reason except jealousy? She hated Lexi for getting to know daddy and not being “dark and twisty.”
I like Lexi. She was nice to everyone and was a super human with her photographic memory. I can't relate to her, but I did like her. I like nice people. The character I felt I could relate to the most was Christina Yang. I used to have an attitude like hers. I had always thought I had her drive for the love of a career. Her mindset of not having kids and her heartless approach to have zero concern for other people's feelings. If I was a doctor, I wouldn't be as cold as she was with patient care. She often saw the patient as merely a body and science rather than an actual person. But the obvious and only appealing trait about her was her motivation to be the best and she was. She was very smart and destined to be a great surgeon and everyone knew it.
I really enjoyed how new doctors were introduced to the plot. They were usually the gossip in the hospital. One of my favorite episodes would be when Dr. Arizona Robbins gets accidental weed cookies from a patient and shares it with some of the doctors and they get high. My least favorite episode is when Dr. Alex Karev leaves Dr. Jo Wilson. Well, in this episode she is Dr. Karev as well. I hate it because he left her to be with the model Dr. Izzie Stevens. It's just so unfair. I can't explain it. Yes they had kids but that's no reason to leave your wife for the first wife who left you! Just so not cool.
So what is it about the show that draws so much of my attention? I think it's the “game” that Dr. Richard Weber says on their first day of their internship when he welcomes everyone and gives a speech about how everyone won't be there in the end and how they are each other's competition and how they will be tested in every way possible during the entirety of their journey in Medicine.
I have an interest in medicine, so that must be the root to my interest. It's exciting to see them grow as doctors and face challenges case by case. The patients they treat are based on actual diagnoses that can happen in real life. I've googled them. No judgment zone remember! Haha. Aside from the intense journey to your first patient dying to love quarrel in the workplace and creating friendships that last a lifetime, the show is annoyingly addicting through some seasons. I've even watched Addison Montgomery's spin off in Private Practice.
It's actually hard for me to start a new TV show if I didn't get a recommendation or have seen an episode by chance. I don't really start a new episode of a TV show just to watch it. So when I'm bored or shamefully procrastinating with other stuff I watch familiar TV series and admittedly have seen Grey’s Anatomy one too many times.
