Dune: Prophecy Ending Explained
Every Surprise, Disclosure, and Implication for Season 2

The first season of Dune: Prophecy is now over, and there is a ton of fresh content and potential plot points for season two to consider. Denis Villeneuve's epic film universe is expanded with the HBO prequel series, which tells the story of the early Bene Gesserit and is set 10,000 years before the events of the Dune movies. Dune: Prophecy, while is mostly based on Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's novel Dune Sisterhood, has also established a number of its own plots, many of which are resolved in the first season finale.
The main character in Dune: Prophecy is Emily Watson, who plays Valya Harkonnen, a driven individual who heads the Sisterhood's effort to take over the Imperium and implement their covert genetic breeding scheme. She and her sister Tula, who is also Desmond Hart's mother, confront him at the close of the first season. Emperor Javicco Corrino commits suicide after learning that the Sisterhood had ruled his entire life. Last but not least, Keiran Atreides and Princess Ynez left the capital in the season one finale.
Why, in Dune: Prophecy's End, Valya Harkonnen Travels to Arrakis with Ynez & Keiran
It's crucial to analyze how Valya Harkonnen concluded Dune: Prophecy season 1 at an intriguing location with even more intriguing traveling companions. First of all, Desmond Hart's initial encounter with the sandworm is what initially piqued Valya's curiosity in Arrakis. In an attempt to spread the new Omnius Plague, an unidentified player took Desmond's body and placed a Thinking Machine in him sometime prior to season 1. Fear triggers this strain of the virus, which kills Sister Kasha and Pruwet Richet and gradually spreads across the Sisterhood, giving them nightmares.
Arrakis is the ideal place to start the search for the person who put Desmond Hart up to this mission, which is Valya's goal. Princess Ynez is the Sisterhood's best candidate to be placed on the Imperium throne, guaranteeing their power and dominance over the Known Universe, thus she has brought her along to protect her. Keiran Atreides has stated that he has no faith in Valya or any Harkonnen, but his only goal at this point is to keep Ynez safe. He loves Ynez and wants to support her, even if he still opposes the Imperium's enormous authority.
Who Was Responsible for the Capture and Thinking Machine Implant of Desmond Hart?
The latter two episodes of the miniseries clarified a lot of Desmond Hart's background, revealing that he was the son of Orry Atreides and Tula Harkonnen. The season 1 finale reveals that the powers he woke up with after being ingested by a sandworm on Arrakis were bestowed by a Thinking Machine Implant, enabling him to propagate the Omnius Plague. We haven't yet seen the character who deliberately chose Desmond as a candidate, carried out the procedure, and sent him on his assignment.
That being said, it is still possible to make assumptions about the intentions of this unidentified attacker. Desmond Hart was chosen to exploit his preexisting animosity toward the Sisterhood as a weapon in their attempt to destroy it. Someone who was harmed by the Sisterhood, perhaps during or shortly after the Butlerian Jihad, would be the figure. Even though the season 1 finale seems to suggest a human person, it is also possible that the Thinking Machines themselves are upset with the Sisterhood for taking their place in society.
Why Tula Harkonnen, Desmond Hart's mother, is arrested
Finally reunited after being separated at infancy, Desmond Hart and Tula Harkonnen share a fairly emotional moment before he chooses to jail her. It is clear to the audience that Tula loves Desmond very much and that she sent him away just to provide him a better life, not to use him as a tool for Valya and the Sisterhood. However, it will take more persuasion before they have a normal mother-son relationship because Desmond just knows that he was thrown away and had a terrible life.
Now that Dorotea is back, what will happen to the sisterhood?
In episode 5, Mother Superior Raquella returns to assist Tula Harkonnen after Lila's operation caused her genetic forebears to take over her body. Dorotea returned in the season finale, but she has been... much less helpful. In essence, Dorotea leads the Sisterhood in a rebellion against Valya Harkonnen through Lila's body, destroying Raquella's forbidden Thinking Machine technology that gave them access to the genetic archive. The Harkonnen sisters temporarily lose the Sisterhood, but it is unclear how long Dorotea will have power over Lila's body.
The Reason Tula Misled Valya About Her Child
Throughout the first season of Dune: Prophecy, Tula Harkonnen has been in a state of struggle. Although she carried out the crimes against House Atreides at Valya's request, she is not quite sure of her sister's nature despite her intense loyalty to her. Tula displays a hesitant look before to making the surviving sisters swear unwavering loyalty to Valya in the flashback scene from episode 6. Like Francesca with Javicco, Tula is devoted to the Sisterhood, but she also has boundaries she won't cross, and one of them is having Valya's schemes control her child's life.
Who Will Become Emperor in Place of Javicco Corrino?
Now that Javicco Corrino is dead, one of the biggest questions facing the Imperium is what will happen to it in the future. Ynez is Javicco's sole biological child, however she has since fled with Valya Harkonnen. Either Empress Natalya may attempt to pull off a Cersei Lannister-style scenario in which she becomes queen, or Prince Constantine Corrino was Javicco's bastard son. Natalya may clash with Constantine, who now commands the fleet, as she recently murdered Sister Francesca and is unlikely to want the walking reminder of her husband's adultery to become the new emperor.
Will Season 2 of Dune: Prophecy Return?
HBO has confirmed that Dune: Prophecy will be renewed for a second season as of December 20, 2024. Season 1 proved to be valuable for Warner Bros., and co-creators/showrunner Alison Schapker and executive producer Jordan Goldberg previously expressed excitement about continuing the series with further stories at New York Comic Con. They probably want to continue building the story in anticipation of Dune: Part 3's expansion, because Dune is one of their main current brands. Dune: There will be more prophecies.
