Every DC Character Revealed In The Superman Trailer
How They Appear in Comics

The first official look at a number of DC Comics characters in live-action has finally arrived with the first teaser trailer for Superman. On July 11, 2025, Superman will be released, serving as the first film in DC Studios' new cinematic world, the DC world. A few DCEU characters will join the DCU, but the reboot has resulted in the recasting of numerous key roles, including the Man of Steel himself.
Despite focusing on the titular character, Superman has a strong cast, many of whom have not yet had their live-action adaptations. On Friday, December 20, the first official images of Superman's supporting cast were shown in the first teaser. Each of them had some incredibly comic-accurate character designs. Everyone is shown here, along with how they differ from their comic book equivalents.
DC's Silver Age Is Emulated by Superman
Unsurprisingly, Superman is the main character in the first teaser trailer for Superman. He is first seen falling into a snowy area that is probably where the Fortress of Solitude will be located. Superman looks bloody and bruised, which quickly reveals his weakness and begs the question of who may have hurt the Man of Steel. With a curly hairstyle and the recognizable set of glasses, Corenswet is also seen assuming the disguise of Clark Kent.
Early on in Superman's production, James Gunn acknowledged that the "All-Star Superman" comic book run served as his primary inspiration. Superman's suit, which is exactly like the one he wore in that comic, makes this very clear. His portrayal of Clark Kent differs little from the comic book version, although this is presumably done to help make his disguise appear more authentic.
Lois Lane Reminiscent of the Traditional Courageous Reporter
The Superman teaser emphasizes the significance of Lois Lane's friendship with Superman, making her the second most important character. The teaser appears to show Lois kissing both Superman and Clark Kent, even though Lois is originally unaware of Superman's secret identity in DC Comics. This demonstrates how Superman is not an origin narrative but rather presents the Man of Steel as an established character, implying that he had the opportunity to tell Lois the truth at that point.
With her dark hair and elegant business clothing, Rachel Brosnahan's portrayal of Lois Lane seems very true to her DC Comics image. Unlike certain DC Comics versions of Lois, who have a shorter bob, Superman's rendition of the character has longer hair. She will undoubtedly be put in perilous situations throughout the film, which will revolve around her relationship with Superman.
Something Is Bringing Jonathan Kent to Tears
In the trailer, Jonathan Kent only makes one appearance, while Clark comforts him on their family farm. Although the cause of Pa Kent's breakdown is unknown, Martha Kent's disappearance raises the morbid possibility that she passes away during Superman. Given that Superman had to cope with his father's passing, this would resemble Man of Steel, albeit Superman might reverse that plot. This would give Superman's outfit an additional touch of nostalgia if Ma Kent were to make it.
Compared to the standard DC Comics portrayal of Jonathan Kent, Pruitt Taylor Vince has a slightly different appearance. While Superman's Pa Kent is balding with a beard, Superman's adopted father is typically portrayed as clean-shaven and sporting a full head of gray hair. However, Pruitt Taylor Vince would probably do a good job portraying a farmer, and she even wears a comic-appropriate costume.
Krypto Rescues Superman
It's not surprising that Krypto appeared in the trailer since he was featured in a Superman advertising image. Superman uses a super-whistle to call him, and he is seen racing through the snow. When Krypto is ordered to take the disabled Superman "Home," he grabs Superman's cape and drags him to safety. Whether Superman intends to be taken to Kent Farm, the Fortress of Solitude (as the wintry setting implies), or another location isn't immediately apparent in the video.
Compared to how Krypto is typically portrayed in DC Comics, the live-action version of the character appears a little smaller and hairier. Nonetheless, he wears a humorous crimson cloak with a yellow S-symbol collar and emblem. To assist explain the character design, James Gunn disclosed on Threads that Superman's Krypto is modeled by his dog, Ozu. Additionally, he explained that Krypto is a "not-so-good-good-boy," indicating that the relationship between the Superdog and his master will be intriguing.
Lex Luthor appears very menacing.
About halfway through the trailer, Lex Luthor makes his appearance inside what appears to be the offices of Luthorcorp. He can be seen rotating a revolver's cylinder, seeing a flying metahuman (perhaps Superman, but other superhumans are also in action), and seemed very moved in a close-up. The "main villain" of Superman, as announced by James Gunn, is expected to play a significant role in the film.
Nicholas Hoult looks a lot like DC Comics' Lex Luthor. Luthor's clean-shaven face and bald head are perhaps his most identifiable features. This tradition was broken by Man of Steel's portrayal of Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which caused some anger even though he would eventually shave his head. Thus, Hoult's Luthor is a well-known illustration of how Superman—and perhaps the entire DCU—will try to remain comic-accurate.
As the Green Lantern, Guy Gardner appears.
As a frequent collaborator of James Gunn, Nathan Fillion's inclusion in the DCU's first live-action film is hardly surprising. The clip shows Guy Gardner, the first Green Lantern to emerge in the DCU, approaching a distraught Superman while using his power ring to shut the windows of a Stagg Industries building. He and Hawkgirl are seen entering the room together, implying that they are members of a group similar to the Justice League.
With his bowl-cut red hair, Fillion's Guy Gardner undoubtedly epitomizes one of his most iconic comic book appearances. Though he would later adopt a less daring look in other comics, this haircut is among the confident hero's earliest. However, instead of wearing his usual green outfit from DC Comics, Superman's Guy Gardner dons a largely white supersuit that mimics Hawkgirl's style. In his brief appearance in the trailer, Fillion does, however, portray Gardner's brazen demeanor.
Hawkgirl is yet another well-known superhero.
After briefly following Guy Gardner in the Stagg Industries building, Hawkgirl is seen flying through the skies of Metropolis with her trademark mace. Although this scene is soon followed by Superman fighting a kaiju in a similar setting, it is unknown who the hero is facing. The character that Hawkgirl Merced will play is currently unknown.
Superman's Hawkgirl is armed with a mace, a traditional winged helmet, and what seem to be two natural wings. Though Hawkgirl is noticeably wearing a white and black outfit akin to Guy Gardner's instead of her usual yellow and green skintight suit, these all appear to be quite comic-accurate. It's unclear if Merced's Hawkgirl will make a comeback in a later DCU film and, if so, whether her wardrobe will be more comic-accurate.
It Looks Like Superman Is Weeping Over Kelex
Later in the trailer, Superman can be seen stooped over a prone robot that has lost its bottom body. Superman becomes extremely upset and is holding the dead droid's hand, indicating a tight relationship between the two. According to the crystal walls, this appears to be taking place in the Fortress of Solitude, indicating that this robot is Superman's Kryptonian robot aide, Kelex, who also serves as the Fortress of Solitude's caretaker and another connection to Krypton with Krypto.
Should this be Kelex, his appearance differs slightly from that of the DC Comics Kelex. Usually made of brass or gold, kelex has a smooth, disc-shaped head. While he still has the traditional visor in place of eyes, the pale blue robot that Superman is mourning over has a more human-like head shape.
Metamorpho Appears In A Close-Up
In the final moments of the Superman trailer, Metamorpho is shown looking straight at the audience. One of DC's more unusual characters is Metamorpho, who can change his body into a broad range of materials, such as rubber, steel, and stone. Although his exact position in Superman is unknown, Metamorpho's connection to Simon Stagg raises the possibility that he is involved with the Stagg Industries shown in the trailer.
It is challenging to see how much Anthony Carrigan's Metamorpho's body matches that of Metamorpho in DC Comics because he only makes an appearance in a close-up. However, the fact that his shoulders are clearly made of several compounds indicates that he will resemble a comic-accurate patchwork-style appearance. Although his deep blue eyes are a distinctive feature of the live-action adaptation, Carrigan's Metamorpho also has Rex Mason's pale and rough skin.
Mister Terrific Uses Some Defense Technology
In a lengthier shot near the end of the trailer, Mister Terrific makes a brief appearance in the same shot as Guy Gardner. The image shows his face in close-up while donning a T-shaped mask before he uses his T-Spheres to create a shielding forcefield while a group of fighters fire upon him and a woman who appears to be Lois Lane recoils. However, considering the similar purple and green color pattern of their armor, these warriors might be Lex Luthor's.
Of Superman's known superheroes, Mister Terrific is arguably the most comically accurate. While it's hard to tell if the standard "Fair Play" is printed across his sleeve, Superman set photographs show that it's probably the case. His black-and-white leather jacket and T-shaped mask mimic his comic book suit. Additionally, his suit is similar to Hawkgirl's and Guy Gardner's, however it seems that their costumes are made to look like Mister Terrific's.
