Daredevil: Born Again

Alright final couple of episodes here. Something has to come to a head but we also know that there is another season so plenty of loose ends will be left and perhaps some new things will be set up.

Matt now has to deal with Foggy’s death. He has spent over a year burying his emotions and not dealing with it and now he has to. Foggy wasn’t just killed, he was killed for a reason and Matt is on a mission to tie it to Fisk.

Oh so these two are going head to head at a party. This feels a little public. This therapist girlfriend is really starting to bug me. She doesn’t have a character or purpose and I am kind of over it. She is wasting perfectly good screen time that could be used on other things. So here’s the thing with short seasons, you don’t have time to do filler shit. Network seasons are 20+ episodes and you can pretty much do whatever you want because you have the time to flesh out your characters in a plethora of different ways. But when you have 9-10 episodes every single thing you show needs to serve the plot or a character arc and that's simply not happening. It really weakens the show.

The anti-vigilante task force are just power hungry rough cops. And there is an actual journalist that wants to expose this but that is gonna cause problems.

And the man that killed Foggy has officially escaped, killing a bunch of cops on his way out.

Also making Vanessa the driver behind all of this is SO BAD. What a truly terrible writing decision. I have many opinions about many things. It really wouldn’t have taken much to piss me off so did we really have to write the women like shit? We couldn’t have picked anything else? Do we not ever get a break from poorly written women, ever? Please? Marvel I am literally begging at this point, on my knees. Stop destroying female characters.

Now Matt, why would you go and do that? Why would you step in front of a bullet for Fisk?

And now we have Frank back. Sorry but Matt commenting on his facial hair and haircut is weird, he didn’t touch him and you can’t hear the amount of hair someone has on their heads. I feel like we lost the plot for a moment there.

Yeah the cops using the Punisher symbol continues to piss me off, but it's even funnier when the actual Punisher comes in and fucks their shit up. That’s what you get buttercup.

See I needed more Frank and Matt this season, they both live by fundamentally opposed ideologies yet they serve the same goal. It’s an incredibly interesting dichotomy that they absolutely should have explored more. Hopefully we get more of that in season 2, I think it's a really important addition to this story.

Here we go finally some comic book level villainy. The Fisk’s have been so tame this season, some of it was good storytelling and the rest was just laziness I think. But the idea of the Fisk’s trying to build their own empire legally free of consequences is exactly the kind of shit I expect from comic book mob bosses.

I love Frank telling off the cops, telling them how fucking stupid they are for trying to wear his symbol. We are absolutely leaving this season on a cliffhanger, as they should. That is the only way to properly bring a show back.

“We need an army” ooh we’re about to get a lot of street level heroes for season 2 and I truly could not be happier. Fisk declares a police state, declaring Martial Law in New York City, which definitely isn’t something he can even do but here we are. This is fiction.

Anyway, a great way to end season 2. Plenty of plotlines for season 2 have been set up. We’ve got all character arcs reaching their peak. We have some answers that did nothing but open up more questions which is exactly how an ongoing series should work. Overall I think that there are some hit or miss things about the show and where they chose to focus energy but the core of the show was very good and I can’t wait for season 2.
