Synopsis:

Movie lovers are in for a treat this September with a diverse range of films premiering on major OTT platforms. From Malayalam’s gripping web series Kammattam to Rajinikanth’s Coolie in Tamil, there's something for everyone. Kannada films like Ekka and Su From So are also set to release. Read on!

Kammattam (Malayalam) – ZEE5 – September 5

Leading this week’s digital premieres is Kammattam, a gripping Malayalam web series debuting on ZEE5 on September 5. The story follows Inspector Antonio George, who begins investigating the death of a man named Samuel Umman. What initially appears to be a routine case soon spirals into something far more sinister. His inquiry leads him to Samuel’s employee, Francis, and uncovers a chilling chain of events. The show features Sudev Nair, Jeo Baby, and Vivya Santh in key roles.

The show’s strong narrative and character development are expected to keep viewers hooked throughout. With the Malayalam industry producing high-quality thrillers in recent years, Kammattam comes with heightened expectations. Viewers who enjoy crime dramas like Kerala Crime Files and Suzhal will likely find this series compelling.

Ekka (Kannada) – ZEE5 – September 5

After much speculation and multiple rumoured OTT dates, Yuva Rajkumar’s Ekka is now reportedly heading to ZEE5. Though the official streaming date hasn't been announced, OTTplay reports a release around September 5. Directed by Rohit Padaki, Ekka marks Yuva's strong entry into Kannada cinema and explores action and drama in a stylised format.

Ekka has been one of the most anticipated Kannada films of the year, primarily due to Yuva Rajkumar’s legacy as part of the legendary Rajkumar family. Fans are eager to see how he carves his identity in the industry with his debut. If successful, this film could position him as one of Kannada cinema’s rising stars.

Su From So (Kannada) – JioHotstar – September 5

Another much-awaited Kannada comedy, Su From So, produced by Raj B. Shetty, is currently the highest-grossing Kannada movie of 2025. The film, starring Shaneel Gautham, Mime Ramadas, and Prakash Thuminad, is expected to drop on JioHotstar on September 5. While the makers are yet to officially confirm this, fans are eagerly anticipating the release.

Comedy films have always performed well on OTT platforms due to their repeat value. Su From So, with its quirky characters and situational humour, is expected to draw in audiences looking for lighthearted entertainment. It is also significant that a Kannada film has managed to dominate the box office, indicating the industry’s growth and reach.

Junior (Kannada-Telugu) – Amazon Prime Video

Kireeti Reddy’s debut bilingual film, Junior, is also eyeing an early September OTT release. Directed by Radhakrishna Reddy, and co-starring Sreeleela, Genelia Deshmukh, and V. Ravichandran, the movie had a lukewarm theatrical response in Kannada but performed better in Telugu markets. Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital rights, with streaming reportedly beginning around September 5 (per OTTplay).

Bilingual films like Junior often face challenges in striking a balance between two markets, but the OTT release may give it a second chance to connect with wider audiences. With popular names like Genelia Deshmukh returning to the big screen, there is already curiosity surrounding how the film will perform digitally.

Coolie (Tamil) – Amazon Prime Video

Coolie is one of the most talked-about OTT releases of the month. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and headlined by Rajinikanth, the film received mixed reviews in theatres, with criticism aimed at its writing. Still, it remains one of the most buzzed-about releases of 2025. The makers have officially announced that the film is slated to arrive on Amazon Prime Video by September 11, across all major languages with subtitles. It also features Nagarjuna and Soubin Shahir in villainous roles, alongside Shruti Haasan and Sathyaraj.

Despite the criticism, Rajinikanth’s star power ensures that Coolie will find a massive audience on OTT. Lokesh Kanagaraj’s brand of filmmaking has a loyal following, and the movie’s ensemble cast adds further appeal. For viewers who missed it in theatres, the streaming release provides an accessible way to experience the much-hyped project.

Kannappa (Telugu) – Amazon Prime Video

This multi-starrer epic mythological saga will be released on OTT after a long gap. Vishnu Manchu revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that Kannappa will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting September 4, 2025. In his post, he spoke about the film’s themes of devotion, sacrifice, and spiritual power. The film also stars Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, and Prabhas in key roles.

Kannappa’s release is significant not only or its big names but also for reviving mythological cinema in a modern format. With larger-than-life visuals and grand storytelling, it appeals to fans of historical and devotional sagas. Its OTT debut is expected to attract not just Telugu audiences but also pan-Indian viewers curious to see this star-studded spectacle.

Overall, September 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting month for OTT viewers across India. From intense crime thrillers and action-packed dramas to lighthearted comedies and epic mythological tales, audiences will have plenty to choose from. These releases also highlight the growing importance of OTT platforms in giving films a second life after their theatrical runs, reaching millions of subscribers across the globe.
