Coolie Box Office Collection Day 6: Rajinikanth Film Shows Further Dip, Collects ₹214 Crore

Rajinikanth’s Coolie Crosses ₹200 Crore Despite Weekday Slump

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ensemble actioner Coolie, headlined by superstar Rajinikanth, is showing a slight dip in its weekday collections after a thunderous Independence Day weekend opening. The film, which stars Rajinikanth in the role of a union leader-turned-avenger, has crossed the ₹200 crore milestone in India but is slowing down as it enters its first full week.

Despite facing competition from Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2, Coolie has maintained its edge, at least for now. The Rajinikanth factor, coupled with Kanagaraj’s proven track record of blockbusters, continues to pull audiences, though the weekday slump is becoming more apparent.

Coolie Box Office Performance So Far

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Coolie collected an estimated ₹8.11 crore net in India on Tuesday, taking its total domestic collection to ₹214.61 crore net.

The film opened on a high note with ₹65 crore on Thursday, fueled by the holiday and Rajinikanth’s massive fanbase. On Friday, numbers dipped slightly to ₹54.75 crore. Over the weekend, it saw a further drop—₹39.5 crore on Saturday and ₹35.25 crore on Sunday. Monday held steady at ₹12 crore, which is solid for a weekday, but Tuesday’s ₹8.11 crore shows the film is beginning to slow down.

Rajinikanth’s Coolie Joins His List of Biggest Hits

On the global front, Coolie has already crossed the ₹400 crore mark, cementing itself as one of Rajinikanth’s highest-grossing films to date. For a star whose career has spanned decades, that’s saying something.

That said, Coolie still has ground to cover if it hopes to overtake other big box office giants of 2025. Saiyaara, for instance, has made ₹324.75 crore net in India, while Chhaava is in another league altogether with ₹601.57 crore. Within Kanagaraj’s own filmography, Coolie still lags behind Leo (₹341.04 crore net) and Vikram (₹247 crore net).

If Coolie can maintain momentum through the week, it could at least surpass Vikram’s lifetime total, but beating Leo will be more of an uphill climb.

The Story Behind Coolie

Coolie follows Deva (Rajinikanth), a former union leader whose world shatters after the sudden death of his friend Rajasekhar (played by Sathyaraj). What begins as a quest for truth soon transforms into a larger battle against powerful enemies. Nagarjuna plays Simon, the ruthless gangster antagonist, while Soubin Shahir stars as his right-hand man, Dayal.

The supporting cast is stacked—Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Upendra, and even Aamir Khan in a pivotal role. This ensemble has been a major talking point, with Kanagaraj known for giving every character a defined arc, even in a star-driven film.

Reception: Mixed Reviews, Strong Audience Pull

Critics have given Coolie mixed reviews, praising Rajinikanth’s magnetic screen presence and Kanagaraj’s stylish action set pieces but criticizing the film’s length and uneven pacing. Still, when it comes to Rajinikanth, reviews often matter less than the audience’s connection.

Fans have been flooding theaters, especially during its opening weekend, to witness the superstar back in a gritty, action-heavy role. For many, it recalls his vintage avatars of the ’90s and early 2000s—charismatic, commanding, and larger than life.

The Road Ahead for Coolie

The question now is how long Coolie can sustain itself at the box office. With War 2 still pulling strong numbers and upcoming releases like Saiyaara and Chhaava dominating the conversation, Coolie may struggle to hold onto screens at its current pace.

However, Rajinikanth’s films often see long theatrical runs in South India, buoyed by repeat audiences and the festival-like atmosphere around his releases. If Coolie can ride that cultural wave, it might just push past expectations, even if it doesn’t break Kanagaraj’s own records.

For now, crossing ₹214 crore in six days is an achievement most films can only dream of—and Rajinikanth proves yet again why he remains one of Indian cinema’s biggest draws.
