Bryton James is the first Y&R cast member to crossover to Beyond the Gates

Devon Hamilton heads to Fairmont Crest

Beyond the Gates, debuted February 24, 2025, on CBS focusing on the wealthy Dupree family. A crossover episode with sister soaps The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful were promised from day one. The first will happen soon with Y&R. Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) will make a trip to the upscale Maryland community.

The popular actor first became a fan favorite when he portrayed Richie Crawford, the son of Rachel Crawford (Telma Hopkins) on the ABC sitcom Family Matters (1990-1997). Three of his co-stars from the primetime show have also appeared on The Young and the Restless.

Darius McCray (Eddie Winslow) portrayed Malcom Winters, taking over for Shemar Moore for a short stint, Michelle Thomas (Myra Monkhouse) played Callie Rogers and Hopkins appeared a few times as Denise Toliver.

Devon has come a long way

New fans of The Young and the Restless may not be aware of Devon's history in Genoa City. He arrived in 2004, as a homeless teen with hearing loss. He was the foster child of Neil Winters ( Kristoff St. John) and Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell). Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) whose mom is Drucilla and father is Malcolm is his sister/cousin.

Devon's birth parents were Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) and Yolanda Hamilton (Chene Wilson). He has a half sisters Ana Hamilton (Loren Lott). James won a Daytime Emmy in 2007 because of the manner in which the hearing loss was handled.

James began dating Brytni who portrays Elena Dawson on Y&R in 2019. The doctor has not been seen in Genoa City for a while and there has been no news that the couple has split. No air dates are available for when he will appear on BTG.

What will Devon be doing in Fairmont Crest

This first-ever crossover appearance between the soaps promises to be epic based on a recent promotional clip which shows Devon entering the dining area at the lavish Fairmont Crest Country Club. He’s greeted by Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) who exclaims, “Devon, welcome to Fairmont Crest!”

He is next shown with Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis). Y&R viewers know Devon is a music promoter and BTG will soon feature a reunion concert by the ’70s-era girl group The Articulettes which Anita used to sing with. Perhaps Devon has been hired to lend his expertise to the concert. The Duprees do everything top notch so choosing Devon attests to his talent.

Devon is a billionaire but he is laid back and his money is no9t that important. The Duprees, on the other hand are over the top and eccentric with their wealth so it will be interesting to see how they get along.

More crossover episodes are coming

Crossover episodes have been done between The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful for decades. They usually are related to the fashion industry. Lauren Fenmore Baldwin ( Tracey Bergman) is usually the Genoa City resident who shows up in LA the most.

Recently Danny Romalatti (Michael Damian) and Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell) spent time with the Forrester Creations crew. Perhaps Devon will now open of a connection with the Fairmont Crest music industry. He might pop in every now and again.

There are rumors that BTG and B&B will also have a crossover down the road. Bryton James is expected to appear in two or three BTG episodes.
