Black and white are shades, not colours
Black is a shade of white, and white is a shade of black, duh

The year is 1992. There are racial related riots in the city of angels, between blacks and koreans and blacks and whites and koreans. Needless to say the racism tension was at a quite a high level. The Rodney King incident didn't help much at easing the tensions either, so the great nation of US and A was pretty much divided between groups belonging to different shades of grey.
Obviously, most of the humans were pretty busy trying to prove their shade is the best shade, and that the other shades are inferior, or that their shade is being treated worse and that they must have compensation for the bad treatment they received. Of course some humans are racists, and some aren't, but that has nothing to do with the shade of the skin.
So while most of the humans were busy protesting and fighting each other, there were some who were doing something different. Some humans at the extreme ends of the spectrum decided that they should work together, because, why the f*** not? This is how the movie "Bodyguard" has been made. You have a black female lead and a white man support. Just as easy as that.
Now I was just a kid when this movie came out, I was 2 years old, but when I first saw it I was about 8 (things took longer to arrive in my country in those times). What happend, is, that I didn't really like the movie that much, I was just a kid so I didn't even understand it. But I still remeber seeing it. Not only do I remember seeing it, I remember the " I will allways love you" song, which, even if at the time I didn't understand much english, or knew many things about music, left a mark in my brain.
I had no ideea about what was going on in USA at that time, I didn't even knew that racism existed in the first place, so I just minded my bussines of being a kid. Now I understand though, that making that movie in that enviroment at that time was a big deal. And it paid of handsomely as well. The soundtrack of the movie sold over 45 millions copies, and "I will allways love you" was number one for 14 weeks, both achievements being new records at the time ( not sure if that changed in the meantime).
Is "Bodyguard" more than a movie? I don't know, I never saw it from start to end, yet I still know about it and write about it, so, in my opinion it could be more than a movie, it could be a statement that the shades of grey the melanin produces in the human body doesn't make one worse than the other. It might be a statement that what differentiate people is their actions, their way of living, the way they treat others, their kindness, and their love towards life and all living beings, and that all these things have nothing to do with what shade of grey our skin is, because all that is hidden deep inside, beneath the skin, and it cannot be seen, it can only be felt, just as we can still feel the great song that is " I will allways love you".
Did this movie end racism ? As we can see even today, not yet. But in my opinion it helped a lot, and that is all that matters, picking your side and trying your best to help your side win. The people involved in this project sided with compassion and love and they tried to show us a different way of living, with no hate and no fear, and that's why the Whitney Houston's name and the movie "Bodyguard" will be mentioned in the future as one of the most successful colaboration between black and white.
