10 songs that fit Valentine's Day but not on purpose
If you're single, you're not alone...theoretically
What is the matter with this day? I mean what is the point of it? As history says this used to be called the festival of Lupercalia ( sounds way cooler) which included fertility rites and other festive activities. This festival existed to also celebrate the coming of spring, but in the year 496 someone decided to change it's name and apparently, it's meaning as well, because now, as far as I know, it's all about picking the best gift and planing the perfect day for your partner.
And I also don't understand how this is supposed to work? Two people that are in a relationship are supposed to surprise each other and plan the same day separately ?
But enough with the logistics, I'll let the people that have to deal with this to sort it out. We are here to talk about music. Music, the language of the soul. Is this day special enough, or important enough to make me change my playlist? Does this day have so much power over me that I need some special songs to get me through the day? Am I going to listen to something different than what I normaly listen because of Valentine's Day?
Short answer, no. Not even close. Not even remotely close. Not even in same univers. My music is my music. And it all depends on the activity I'm doing. Of course I recognize I like some songs more than others, or a genre more than another, but it all comes down to activity. Since my favourite genre is symphonic metal, and most types of metal, I am aware that I cannot listen metal while I am reading or writing or during any activity that requires concentration. During these activities I go with some mellow smooth instrumental jazz, or maybe some deep house for gaming and researching.
When I'm going for an evening walk, I usualy like to listen to hip-hop, like gospel.
But when it hits the fan, and I have to react, and push myself, metal is the go to. Like if I'm in a rush to get somewhere, or just to fully focus on myself, I find it the best thing ever. Of course whenever I exercise and workout and go for a run, I allways take it with me, and it helps me a lot. Sometimes I run on the pace of the melody, which is great because the songs are typically quite long and they go from slow to fast, and I get a boost from that.
Not to mention when screaming starts, and I go all in, well or at least I do my best at going all in. It can be a very interesting experience, at least for me, but I would recomand it to everyone.
I do believe that Valentine's Day is like someone remebering you that you are in relationship with someone and that you need to show them that you love them. I feel like it's someone that judges everyone in a relationship how good they are to each other, and I for one, don't respond well to judgement.
I feel like celebrating this day, alone or in a relationship, means that you agree with the fact that outside this day you just don't love your partner. And if it bothers you that you're alone on this day, more than in the other days, means that you only care about what others think about you being single, and you don't like to be judged for your choice. Being sad on this day because you are single is a recognition to everyone saying you should just get in a relationship, just because.
So I say for everyone single on this dreaded day, it's not different from any other days. For the people in relationship the same. If you make something more special this day than any other random day of the year, you should question your relationship.
In the end I would like to list 10 songs that fit the Valentines Day feel.
1. Nightwish - Wish I had an angel (pretty self explanatory)
2. Rammstein - Amour ( for the romantics)
3. System of a Down - Lonely day ( forrrr the singleees)
4. Nightwish - She is my sin ( she sure is, or was)
5. Rammstein - Striped ( has more depth to it)
6. Nightwish - Slow, love, slow ( you'll thank me for this one)
7. Nightwish - Ghost love score ( I just love Nightwish)
8. Marilyn Mason - Tainted love ( no comment)
9. Nightwish - Phantom of the opera ( yes, again)
10. Guns and roses - November rain ( just remembered this gem)
