Best List of Comedy Movies for Office Lovers

The Office, Parks and Rec, and all the others

By Miranda BowronPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

So many people are in love with The Office, or Parks and Recreation, all of those tv shows that hilariously make you watch over and over again. So I've compiled my own list of comedies that I think you can watch again and again and never grow tired of. Expectations for Office lovers are usually pretty high so don't come after me if you didn't like a movie on my list. I'm trying my best!

1. Superbad

Known as one of the best comedies of all time, Superbad is a clear first choice for comedy lovers. The outstanding cast makes every joke feel improvised, but it's actually the comedic team of Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg and Judd Apatow that make this movie unforgettable. The characters alone are hilarious, the plot isn't over dramatic, and there's enough substance to keep you interested.

Two bestfriends, and one friend, are invited to the biggest house party of the year. They spend their day trying to get alcohol to impress girls and begin their sex lives before college. Hilarity ensues when one of them falls into the hands of two incompetent police officers. It's relaxed, funny, and an absolute classic. If you haven't seen this yet, now is the time.

2. Pineapple Express

While we're talking about Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (and producer Apatow), let's talk about this stoner buddy flick. Dale and his dealer, Saul (James Franco), must quickly go on the run after Dale witnesses a murder and leaves behind a rare strain of marijuana. Believing the strain can be traced to the two of them, they get into a cat and mouse chase with a crooked cop and a drug lord.

This comedy has more action, but also more unexpected physical comedy. Although it's written by the same as Superbad, it's wildly different. Playing up the comedic timing and lines, while using the action in the film to give a touch of physical comedy, while Superbad has a more relaxed feel. That won't stop you from giggling at the hijinks these men get themselves into.

3. Crazy, Stupid, Love

I know some may say this romcom shouldn't be on the list, but let me tell you Steve Carell brings some good Michael Scott energy to this romantic classic. His comedic timing is unmatched and it travels to every movie he's in. If you haven't seen some of his classics, such as The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Dinner for Schmucks, those are also a must see in the comedy circle. Steve Carell produced this one with an all star cast including; Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, and Kevin Bacon (to name just a few).

Crazy, Stupid, Love begins with Cal (Steve) and Emily (Julianne) at dinner in a seemingly typical, married with kids, date night. Until Emily tells him, she's had an affair and wants a divorce. The news sets Cal's life into a whirlwind of regrets, bad dates, and rediscovering himself and his relationships. All the while, a handsome playboy named Jacob (Gosling) tries to help the poor man get some game in the hip, new world of dating other people. It's funny, it's touching, and it's a film everyone should enjoy.

4. Hit and Run

I find that most television shows people enjoy watching are light-hearted and easy to watch. Hit and Run is one of those movies that's just enjoyable to sit down and giggle through. It has action, comedy, some romance, and it's genuinely easy-going, despite the plot description. It's comparable to Observe and Report, the Seth Rogan film about a mall cop. Directed and written by and starring Dax Shepard, it's a good date night film.

Dax Shepard plays Charlie Bronson, a nice guy who made some bad decisions. He breaks out of witness protection in order to bring his girlfriend (Kristin Bell) to a very important job interview. Now that he's left witness protection, he has a dimwitted federal agent, and the mobster he testified against (Bradley Cooper) after him. It's a hit or miss with most people, as it is offbeat and rated R with some sexual references, violence, nudity and drugs. Overall, I would say the viewing experience is very similar, but not as PG as the television hits we all love.

I have an entire list of comedies I love, but these are the chosen few that I feel best accompany our most treasured television series. Honorable mentions could include, Knocked Up, This is 40, Our Idiot Brother, The Edge of Seventeen, Wine Country, Baby Mama, and The Pacifier. There are so many films out there, I hope you take the time to explore your options instead of watching the same nine seasons of The Office.
