'Avengers: Doomsday': Easter Eggs In The 'X-Men' Teaser Could Hint At A Surprise Character Appearance
Death comes for us all..

Following much speculation about what they would contain, the first four teaser trailers for Avengers: Doomsday have now been released online, and fans are eagerly combing through them in search of clues as to what to expect when the film hits theatres in December. Each teaser so far has focused on a particular character or group of characters, the first on Steve Rogers, the second on Thor, and the third on the X-Men, with the fourth and currently final teaser focusing on the Wakandans and the Fantastic Four.
While all four teasers carry potential clues as to what we'll see in Doomsday, for now let's focus on the X-Men teaser. A number of fans have noticed a few Easter Eggs that hint at a potential character return beyond the existing confirmed Doomsday cast, and it's one fans may find surprising.
The Clues
Upon watching the X-Men's Doomsday teaser, some fans recognised a few bars of a familiar piece of score. This score plays over the teaser's first few moments, before fading into the now familiar new arrangement of the Avengers theme used in the other three teasers.
The piece of score in question is 'Lucid Spellbound Divination' by Christophe Beck.
Beck wrote 'Lucid Spellbound Divination' as part of the score for Agatha All Along, after also having written the score for Agatha's parent series, WandaVision. While some sources list the track as part of volume one of Agatha All Along's score, 'Lucid Spellbound Divination' is actually used most prominently in episode seven, 'Death's Hand In Mine'.
'Death's Hand In Mine' focuses on Lilia Calderu's Divination trial, and includes flashbacks to Lilia's time learning from her Maestra before an illness took the lives of Lilia's original coven.
During the scene, Lilia's Maestra uses a significant quote:
"Death comes for us all."
The same quote is heard in the X-Men Doomsday teaser, spoken by Magneto, with Ian McKellen reprising the role.
It is unlikely to be a coincidence to have two Easter Eggs from the same TV episode also appear in the same teaser. So, what does it mean?
Welcome back Death?
While many guessed it ahead of time, 'Death's Hand In Mine' came with the reveal that Rio Vidal, Agatha's former lover and the Coven's replacement Green Witch, is actually the embodiment of Death. Some fans have taken the above clues, as well as a recent rumour that Aubrey Plaza is set to reprise her role, as hints that Death/Rio may appear in Doomsday.
There are those who find this possibility troubling. If Death is hanging around in Doomsday, that means characters are going to die, so her presence could only be a bad thing, right?
Well, not necessarily. While Rio is presented as the final major antagonist in Agatha All Along, this is only because her victory would mean the end for Billy, the Deuteragonist of the series. Plus, she only wants Billy dead because his inadvertently stealing a second life by inhabiting the body of William Kaplan disrupts the natural order of things.
In both Marvel Comics, and the version presented in the MCU, Death is neither good nor evil, she simply Is. Her role in the universe is to maintain the balance of life and death. So, while she mostly stays out of mortal conflicts, she will intervene if balance is threatened.
In Marvel Comics, Death is initially responsible for Thanos obtaining the Infinity Stones, believing Life has become too prevalent and wishes for Thanos to tip the scales. However, during the classic Infinity Gauntlet comic story, when Thanos, in a misguided attempt at impressing Death, tips the scales too far in the other direction by wiping out half of all life, Death unites with the surviving heroes to restore balance.

If, during Doomsday, Dr. Doom causes any deaths that upset the natural order of things, it is possible that Rio may emerge as an unexpected ally of the heroes in the hope of restoring the natural order.
It's a long wait for real answers, but we'll finally get them when Avengers: Doomsday is released in December.
