Anora Ending Explained

It is a sad ending for Anora. Reviews for Anora, which was written and directed by Sean Baker, who was praised for Rocket Man and The Florida Project, have been overwhelmingly positive. The movie has been nominated for awards since its Cannes Film Festival debut. As Anora comes to a close, Mikey Madison's title character boards a private jet to Las Vegas with the rest of the cast, including Vanya, his parents, Igor, Toros, and Garnick, in order to have her marriage dissolved. Anora objects to being made to do something she doesn't want to do, but Vanya's mother Galina threatens to punish her if she doesn't comply.

Anora goes to Vegas with the group because she still wants to fight but is sick of being ignored and treated like a nobody. She is aware that she has few choices at this time and that Vanya's family is too strong and wealthy to challenge. Anora's cries are largely ignored by Vanya in Vegas. She throws Galina her mink coat, signs the annulment papers, and walks away. She and Igor return to New York, where Igor returns Anora's engagement ring and takes her to the bank. Anora starts to have sex with Igor, but she stops and starts crying.

Why Anora Doesn't Cry Until the End of the Movie

As she defends herself, Anora repeatedly tells herself that she doesn't need anyone and spends the majority of the movie cursing at every employee of Vanya's parents' company. Throughout the movie, Anora begs Vanya to stand up for her, but by the end, she is worn out from fighting alone without any real support. The truth is that Anora was impacted by everything that happened to her; she was humiliated, had to get an annulment, and had her morals called into question. She was only able to be completely vulnerable and feel all of her emotions in the silent time spent with Igor.

Anora felt safe crying with Igor because he was the only person she could rely on, but he was also kind to her when others weren't. Anora likely believed that crying in front of Toros, Vanya, and his parents would have given the impression that she was weak. At the time, Anora was unaware of what would happen because she was still in the middle of the entire situation and was shocked by the turn of events. It seems as though her emotions and the trauma of everything that transpired finally caught up with her when she breaks down.

Will Igor and Anora Meet Up?

Igor is the only person who treats Anora like a human being and shows empathy for her when no one else does, despite their antagonistic relationship. At the end, there was some flirting between Anora and Igor, but she was still irritated with him. Out of all the people she interacted with, Anora probably felt she could trust Igor, and he sympathized with her situation without passing judgment. Given that Anora briefly attempts to have sex with him, Baker suggests that they might end up dating. With Igor, Anora displays vulnerability, and he doesn't reject her.

Anora and Igor might attempt to be together for a while, but their romantic relationship wouldn't have a solid foundation because it was during a traumatic event. But it probably won't last because. Anora will undoubtedly feel something in the long run, whether or not they end up together, because Igor ultimately assisted Vanya's family in pressuring her to get an annulment she didn't want. A coupling may be hinted at in Anora's ending, but there is ample evidence that it is unlikely to occur and may even be a bad idea.

Anora's Future After Her Marriage Was Annulled

The money promised to Anora in exchange for leaving Vanya is given to her, but it won't last her long. Given everything that happened, Anora is unlikely to return to her previous job as a stripper after quitting and being humiliated by having to drag Vanya out of the strip club in front of all of her former coworkers. Anora needs to be ready for a great deal of criticism, rumors, and humiliation if she does. Anora might keep working as a stripper, but she might take a break before returning to her job.

She endured a lot, and the emotional fallout, which included being betrayed and mistreated by Vanya and his family, affected her. She may live off the money she was paid for a while before deciding what to do with her life because she needs time to heal. Anora had to deal with something that would affect her for a long time, and she needed time to think about what had happened, what she and Vanya had done, and how these things would influence and change her in the future.

The Reason Vanya Doesn't Struggle to Keep His Marriage With Anora

Despite Vanya's declarations of love and desire to wed Anora, he fled his mansion at the first hint of outside strife. Vanya behaved like a child instead of discussing the situation with her. Furthermore, he was still a child in many respects and was not prepared for a major commitment like marriage. Vanya was extremely privileged, wealthy, and very young. He partially rebelled against his parents' authority when he married Anora. Before he couldn't, Vanya was certain he could do as he pleased without consulting them.

Because in actuality, Vanya was still living under his parents' shadow. He had neither a job nor his own money, so he was not independent. Vanya knew his marriage to Anora wouldn't last, so he didn't fight for it. Vanya was aware that his parents would eventually learn of the situation. He would never take their relationship as seriously as she wanted him to. He still feared his parents too much to rebel against them and demand what he wanted.

For Vanya, marrying Anora was like playing a game; he initially put a lot of effort into their union and the joy it brought him, but eventually he lost interest and moved on to something else. Vanya valued his privilege, status, and wealth more than being with Anora, and he would have lost them if he had disobeyed his parents' wishes. Compared to the life he led, Anora was disposable in his eyes. Anora was collateral in Vanya's attempt to have fun; he was just a tourist.

The True Significance Of Anora

Anora exposes how wealthy and influential people mistreat women, particularly strippers. Throughout the movie, Vanya makes promises he can't follow through on, and Anora pays the price for his lack of concern. Vanya's parents reject and ignore Anora due to her position and status, and the Oscar candidate explores the consequences of snap judgments and the significant impact that wealth and power can have on someone like Anora who lacks these things.

Before evicting Vanya as if she were beneath them, her family played with her and her feelings. The film's themes highlight the power disparity in Anora and Vanya's marriage, and Anora is honest in how it handles the circumstances of the title character. The movie is a clever examination of the different types of control, including patriarchal, financial, and power-related, and how they are employed to maintain prestige and status. The film's lasting message is how unfair and awful it is that Anora always ends up getting the short end of the stick.
