Weapon Overheating is Too Extreme in Tarkov
(Intro) If there is one mechanic that was added to Tarkov a few years ago, and since then hasn’t received a ton of attention in terms of adjustments or balance, it’s weapons overheating. Something that certainly can happen if not taken into consideration in regards to your weapon builds and ammunition consumption, and can be the culprit for some untimely deaths. This is definitely more of a later game Tarkov problem. In the early game and even parts into the mid game, you won’t have the ammunition and builds around consistently enough to notice this mechanic. You might, on occasion see the barrel of your weapon begin to smoke and turn a soft red color. But usually that’s about it. We’re also just not dumping magazine after magazine early on because finding ammo, especially good ammo is precious and difficult. Still, once you are established and are just building weapons however you like, overheating becomes a real problem that you need to think about. And sadly, like a lot of other problems in the game, it’s not balanced equally across the different weapons, calibers and too extreme in certain cases for certain weapons. It renders some types of weapons almost impossible to use unless under very specific circumstances. Which you can certainly make an argument that having special use cases for certain types of guns and ammos should be how things work. On the flipside, with that being how this mechanic works currently, the weapons mostly affected should be adjusted in other aspects to counteract how easily they can overheat, either with their price, fire rate or recoil. We’ll get deeper into this, but while there are some extreme cases, overheating is more annoying than it is a way to balance weapons and ammo.

Is PvE Harmful to Tarkov’s Longevity?
(Intro) As someone who has experienced as much of Tarkov as I possibly can individually, with the exception of the Kappa container and meeting Lightkeeper, having more than one direct way of engaging with the game is only beneficial to the player base. If you a veteran of the game, have the knowledge and ability to hold your own, you normally go play PvP against AI and the other players. But perhaps you are lacking in one of the departments previously mentioned. Maybe you have the knowledge that Tarkov requires you to have, but you struggle to fight other opponents and win. Or, inversely, maybe you are exceptionally skilled at shooters but with how complex Tarkov is and the amount of knowledge you need to understand most of the mechanics, it can be an overwhelming experience for anyone. Which is why I am glad that the option to play Tarkov fully offline with no one else except for your friends exists in 2024. PvE Tarkov has allowed many people to experience how awesome the game is, under the guise that they don’t have to worry about the other components that have plagued the game’s problem pipeline for as long as they have. The answer to the question posed in the title of the video: does PvE hurt PvP Tarkov? Is a resounding yes. But it doesn’t matter, because the benefits of its existing outway the determents of it not.

DayZ: The Only Successful Open-World Survival Zombie Game
(Intro) There have a been a lot of attempts at the open world survival genre in video games. It’s easily one of the hardest genres to get right next to something like an MMO. Tons of factors to consider, the entire scale of the game, how to make experiences within it feel natural and organic instead of being spoon-fed moments that don’t come off as genuine. It’s a steep hill to climb, and while many different developers have attempted to get it right, the number of games that have managed to stay alive and hold an audience isn’t that large. Whether that’s because the game, while having a solid idea and foundation, couldn’t get the finer details right, not hitting the number of players needed to stay operational, or just being a complete scam with fraudulent marketing campaigns right up until the very end, it’s extremely easy for an open world survival game to sadly go under and fade away into the history books of just another failed game in this genre of saturated alphas and betas. However, there is one game, through sheer grit, determination, and a dedicated community of passionate players, managed to not only exist, but survive and thrive; being more played and popular than it has ever been before. DayZ is an anomaly; it shouldn’t exist. With how tumultuous the history of this game is, the general disdain for DayZ for quite some time, and then the revival of the game post its official 1.0 launch back in 2018, I wanted to discuss how this game, to me as an outsider with less than 160 hours of gameplay after owning the game for several years, is still the quintessential and arguably most successful open world zombie survival game on the market, even in 2024.
