According to birth statistics and hospital records, more babies are born on September 16 than on any other day of the year. Harvard University published the results of its study in the New York Times, with the same conclusion as other studies based on research and data.

September Is the Most Popular Birth Month

The studies showed that more babies are born in September than in any other month. Also, the days leading up to September 16 and the days following September 16 are the busiest for doctors and nurses to deliver babies. The dates range from September 9 to September 20, with September 16 being the pinnacle.

Possible Reasons for the Popular Date

The studies do not say, with 100 percent certainty, why this particular date is the most popular, but there are a few theories that appear to be possible explanations.

The first clue arises when we think about the date of conception for a mid-September baby: it would likely be late December, deep in the heart of winter.

Matt Stiles of The Daily Viz noted that December is the most common month for conception, especially around the holidays, when people tend to feel more romantic and intimate.

Paul Sutton, a statistician for the Centers for Disease Control, notes that the frequency of intimate activity often increases during the cold winter months, when couples stay indoors and cuddle up more often. Therefore, scientists agree that there is a greater chance for a baby to be conceived in the winter months than in the summer months.

Celebrities Born on September 16

There is a long list of celebrities who were born on September 16. They include:

  • actress and comedian Amy Poehler
  • model Alexis Bledel
  • actress Lauren Bacall
  • singer Flo Rida
  • singer Marc Anthony
  • singer Sabrina Bryant
  • singer Nick Jonas
  • illusionist David Copperfield
  • singer B.B. King
  • evangelist and best-selling author Dr. Robert H. Schuller

Almost everyone knows a friend, family member, colleague, or someone who was born on September 16 or close to that date. This writer's oldest grandson was born on September 13, her youngest sister was born on September 14, and her niece was born on September 16. Therefore, she believes the theory that September is a popular month for births.

If you know people who were born on September 16, let them know the theory about the date of their birth. More than likely, they will enjoy knowing that.

Least Popular Months for Births

Now that we have been informed about the most popular month for births, let's explore the least popular months. Scientists agree that the winter months of December, January, and February are the least popular months for babies to be born. During those months, the least popular days for births are December 25, January 1, and February 29. July 4 is also not a popular birthday.

This does not mean that no babies were born on those dates. It just means that those dates aren't as popular as September 16. It is always a special time, no matter when a baby is born.

Other Birthdays

It doesn't matter which day of the year you blow out the candles on a birthday cake; know that all birthdays are special and are usually celebrated. Anybody's birthday is a precious time to be recognized. It is a chance to be reminded of the date you were born. It is also the time to reflect on what has been and what is expected in the future.

People often get gifts on their birthdays. Some people have parties or do something special to celebrate. It really doesn't matter what is done as long as people enjoy their birthday, whether it is on September 16 or on any other day of the year.
