The Curse of a soulless night
The flickering light of the candle
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The luminescent light cast out by this ominous bright flame seemed to drawn me in. Closer, and closer, I could hear myself thinking that I should stop but before I knew it I found myself at the front door. It was almost like my body was in a state of hypnosis, I knew what had happened but had no explanation for how I got to the front door. A minute had passed and I stood there hyperventilating, trying to debunk what had just happened. “Am I dreaming? Did I fall and hit my head whilst running through the woods?” I had various thoughts coursing through my brain, as I stood there I was pushed by a shivering cold gust of wind blowing straight through the trees behind me, the sheer force of the wind pushed me onto the door, the door then opened, leaving me on the floor at the infamous cabin in the woods that no one had inhabited for a good two decades. As soon as I hit the ground I pushed myself back up and looked to the left, where I had previously seen the bright flame emanating from the cabin, to my shock there was nothing there, no candle or flame by the window. I took a deep breath and stood up, looked around the cabin for any evidence of another person, I was convinced Monty my childhood best friend was playing another prank on me. It was he who called me out here in the coldness of the night to explore the woods and contact the dead with an ouija board. On the chair by the old table by the window I found the Ouija board with the planchette over the “GOODBYE”. From this I gathered that it was Monty, and he had staged everything to frighten me, I look around for more clues, and shout out in search of him. Suddenly I heard a scream from outside the cabin, I turned around and ran out the open door. I searched for a good ten minutes and found nothing, no one around the cabin. Exhausted and cold I opened the door and entered the cabin once more.
To my surprise the Ouija board had disappeared, the once creepy sight of an old shadow casted table with an ouija board somehow became even creepier. I was distressed, the only person who was supposed to be out here was Monty and he was no where to be found, the weird scream, the Ouija board, the ominous candle by the window, not to mention the disappearance of both the candle and the Ouija board. I had enough, and decided to head out back to my car so that I could leave and get home. I wanted to go somewhere I could have cell service and call Monty, now I was more worried for him than anything. “What if he was trying to prank me, but then he ran into someone? What if that scream was him?” I didn’t want to believe my thoughts and wanted to go confirm his safety for myself. If he wasn’t home, or if he wasn’t picking up, I would come back and search for him the whole night if I had to. After working up the nerve I left the cabin and began my thirty-two minute commute back to my car. I walked for a while, restless, scared and paranoid of the echoing noises of the creatures of the woods. Finally after what seemed like an hour of walking I made it back to the main road, where I had parked my own car. As I made the approach to my car I noticed something was off, the passenger door was open, with something sticking out. It was a shoe, “I’d know that shoe anywhere!!! It’s Monty!!” I sprinted up to my car and what I found made me scream and hurl over. It was Monty, I was right, but his eyes had no light, his skin was cold and his white shirt stained with an Ouija board covered with blood, his blood!
I took the Ouija board off of my friend’s body, and started wailing as if I was screaming my soul out into the skies begging the Ouija board to give him back. In that moment of emotional anguish I closed my eyes. When I opened them I found myself back on the chair, staring at the table with the blood covered Ouija board and the planchette on “yes” with a candle once again lit. I realized that he had broken a cardinal rule, he had played it alone in a cabin that was built on the grounds of an old battleground where many had died, and I had like a fool challenged the Ouija board to bring my friend back, and now I find myself In this loop running away from the cabin to open my eyes at this table by the window for all of eternity.
