The mid-February morning felt thick and empty. A steadfast sun streamed through earthen, bare forest. Patchy areas of frosted soil let off an opaque mist and the faint rustling of leaves was quiet against Ell’s valor. Peaceful, yet crammed and empty. Her patterned breath left a trail of hot air, long brown hair frayed out from a messy knot while her skin steamed and glistened, muscles shaped, firmly petite under her sweater. Buzzing audio commenced, keeping time to ten more reps.

“THERE WEREN’T ALWAYS DRAGONS IN THE VALLEY!” the bare-chested man slurred as he lunged at the glass divider in the police cage. His sweaty hamstrings squealed on the ice-cold bench as the seat belt halted his advance. I knew better than to engage Edwin Bigwarrior, my current prisoner, in conversation after the cuffs went on. It would just amp him up again which is not what I wanted for the 45-mile expedition to the county jail. I turned the FM radio up as we left the reservation and turned onto Old Highway 78.

Whoops! I Unleashed Dragons on the World
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. My brothers had it all under control, that was how they earned their Godhood, that was how I lost my chance of becoming a god. Those monsters came and my brothers just - sort of - took them just like that and enslaved them. For good.

Amber Light, Emerald Twilight
Prologue There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Though the tales and stories told would imply that dragons existed in our distant past where knights slew them for glory and fame. But those stories are myths and adventures that stimulate the young minds of children. To inspire their imagination and paint the world as something magical and worthwhile. To encourage little ones to either be a knight able to take on the world or a damsel in distress where the knight sweeps in to save her and bestow unending love. When she was a young girl and told she would meet one of these legendary beings one day, the anticipation would have frozen the breath in her lungs, and the thought of a knight coming to the rescue would infuse her being with mounting excitement. However, the reality was far from anything they had imagined.

Dragon Ridge
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. At least, that's what I've been told. Very few people left in our village remember the days when the dragons ruled from their keeps in the mountains around us, paying us no mind as we adhered to their reign.

The Name: Chapter 1
Hephzibah sobbed in relief as she held her newborn daughter in her trembling arms. The father, Naresh, with tears rolling down his cheeks in joy, gently brushed the child’s face with the tips of his fingers. The midwife bustled around the room, searching for the sprigs of sage she brought to bless the baby with. The proper herbs must be administered at the proper times, along with the proper proverbs. These precautions would ward off the Daemoni and protect the child from their evil influences.
