A Day in the Walls
I woke up to the smell of pancakes and my mother yelling my name. “Emmett! Pancakes are ready!” I opened my eyes and slowly my senses started to come to me. Like somebody was flipping a switch. The smell of pancakes filled my nose, and my stomach began to growl. I glanced over at my clock. It read 10:03AM.

The Ghost and the Locket
My story begins a few years from now. How many exactly? I don’t know, but I’m guessing seven or eight. You see, by the time the story starts, the world has become such a mess, we have even lost track of time. That’s one of the many, fun side effects of constant war; days blend into weeks, months, even years, and you’re too busy staying alive to care about your birthday anymore. And the bigger the war, the more distracted you get.

The First Riddle
The sky had reached its darkest point outside the rundown warehouse as the two men stood checking their hand terminals, rereading the incoming message. They had meant to be home much earlier, but Piotr and Wyatt never managed to have evenings go as planned anymore. They had been studying the Inners’ scouting party for weeks in efforts to discover if they were simply Outriders or a grand Strider incursion, and the search had only grown stranger over time. For years the Inners had focused their expansion efforts on the southern regions, but slowly more and more scouting parties kept popping throughout the Frontier. The word coming from Boise was multiple Outriders were making routine trips into town day after day. Similar rumblings had come from Missoula to the north.

Gifts From Destiny
The packages started arriving the day after I turned thirteen. The first package was a small brown paper box tied with a string the size of my hand. It was just sitting in our mailbox, and it was the first piece of mail that was addressed to me that I ever received. At first my parents were suspicious because there was no return address, but after opening it and checking the contents, they relaxed and gave it back. Inside was a key chain of an atom, of course I didn’t know at the time, I just thought it was cool.

ZV
Suzy did her best to keep up with her father, as he hiked along the tropical trail. It was not an easy hike for a small ten year old girl, with the large green leaves constantly smacking her in the face as she hiked. This was the first time that her father had brought her along on one of his hikes and she wanted nothing more than to please her father and show him that she could hike as well as any boy.

An Unexpected Suspicious Package
An Unexpected Suspicious Package If it was expected, it wouldn’t be suspicious; if it was in a commercially-labeled box, it wouldn’t be unexpected, as the recipient did get a lot of incoming shipments - some even in wooden-crates - but none wrapped in plain brown paper.
