Recaffeination. Top Story - November 2023.
A pleasant neighbourhood café, he thought. Nothing about it too pretentious and maybe…just maybe…not too expensive? He looked at the tables and chairs in the dim light. Mid-afternoon, and there was still plenty of space (strange for a Friday?). And the line was not too long at the counter. Three schoolkids – did he know those uniforms – and the usual screenplay writers who would not write a damn thing… He knew the type.

“Not a fan. No. I first heard her when she was in the Sugarcubes, and I thought that it was kind of cute, but her voice just put me off. Not a fan. I mean there were some fun songs from them at the time. I liked ‘Birthday’ and ‘Delicious Demon’, and there was that last one I heard before I they broke up. I was in school and my boyfriend loved it when we danced at a club to it. And then she went solo. Not a fan… And then she started doing all that dance music. My boyfriend brought home ‘Debut’ and I did not think it was her until I heard that ‘Venus as a Boy’ thing and…he said that he wanted to see other people. And then she put out that video of her dancing in the street. So fake. Not a fan at all. Yeah, I know she had that swan dress and that people thought she was really cool and edgy, but I was just bored. And no, I ain’t going to the show she’s got at that gallery. Still not a fan…

They give off a rubbing sound when I walk. This vip-vip sound makes me the center of attention wherever I go. People stop and scan the area in search of this unique sound. I can see a look of recognition form across their faces as I pass by them. Oh, that’s where the sound is coming from, is what they’re thinking.
