Gilded Apples; Chapter 1
The car finally comes to a stop. I study the line of cars we've parked next to. I still wasn't quite sure what was going on. Quinlynn wanted me to go with him though. Maybe she was already here waiting to explain everything. She had mentioned a change coming.

The Miracle Box
Today, like every day for the past year, Judy Trudeau had gone to visit her ten year old son, Timmy, in the hospital. He was in a coma, and she had been visiting almost every day to talk to him. She prayed and begged for him to wake up. He was hit with a baseball while at a game with his father, and even though she knew she shouldn’t blame John, she did. She grabbed Timmy’s hand and started talking.

Come See the Monstrosity!
There was a new attraction at the city's Aquarium, and the crowds were lining up for it. "Superhero Volt captures a Squid Villain terrorizing town! See the monstrosity here!" the sign declared. Even before entering, visitors shared their excitement with one other. Some remembered seeing this story on the daily news, or hearing about it from first-hand, second-hand or third-hand witnesses.

Living Stews and Tidal Hues
'Aquariums are just... living stews,' thinks Jason, watching the fish within the huge saltwater tank before him gather into a tight column. The action reminds him of the way a ladle stirs a stew pot, and the swirling liquid takes bits and pieces along for the ride. Except instead of a ladle spun by human hands, the vortex is a creation of the creatures themselves - their own movements. It is quite beautiful.

The Age of Aquarium
The grounds seemed much more crowded than usual. No matter. This meeting was of the urgent variety and if I had to temporarily accelerate my speed to maneuver through these people, it would be worth it. I’ll just have to pay the price later. It’s still taking me a while to get used to the brief healing period after drawing on these new powers. I made a mental note to add that to the list of questions already swimming in mind.
