Fable
A Too Perfect Sleeping Beauty
A long time ago…. It was a dark and stormy night (no, really it was) but the King and Queen were still hosting a celebration for their newborn daughter’s christening. Wanting to be sociable (and hoping for some nice gifts) the King had invited 3 of the local fairies: Daisy, Animale and Louisa. Arriving during the storm, and drenched, having been caught unexpectedly in the downpour, each of the fairies presented her gift. Daisy went first and wished for the Princess to always have perfect hair. Animale went next, wishing for the Princess’s makeup to always look flawless. Lastly, Louisa wished that the Princess would always be dressed in the latest fashion. Suddenly there was a commotion at the door: a 4th fairy, Munificence had arrived unexpectedly, having somehow been overlooked in the invitations. ( that was the King’s story and he was sticking to it) Munificence looked perfectly dry, having had the foresight to bring an umbrella ( which upset the other 3 fairies immensely). She walked over to the tiny Princess’s cradle and paused for a moment looking down at the sleeping child. At last she spoke: “my wish is that on your 18th birthday, you will stumble on the stairs, bump your head and knock yourself out. You will remain unconscious until a just and worthy man awakens you and then you will get that which you deserve”.

The Washing Bucket That Was a Wishing Well
The sun beat down on Elizabeth’s back as she plunged the paddle into the dirty clothes sitting in the wooden washing bucket. With a great heave of her shoulders, she hoisted up the kettle of hot water off the fire and carefully tipped the water into the bucket. Grabbing the paddle, she spun the laundry around, turning it over, before throwing in a few handfuls of grated soap. Her younger brother William sat in the shady shadow of an oak tree, leaning against its trunk. He hummed as he grated more soap for the washing, his bare feet scrunching up the green grass. Sweat dripped from Elizabeth’s brow as steam rose up to her face.

Death Breaks Her Promise
Death came when Quentin least expected: that is to say, late. She strode through the door at five past nine. Bowler hat in hand, peacoat soaked by the sudden rain, blonde curls flying in every direction except the one ordained by gravity. Quentin watched her cross the linoleum, her corporeal form passing directly through the nurse on call before settling into the empty rattan chair reserved for loved ones.

The Not So Ugly Duckling
Back when trees could walk and stones could talk, there was a huge family of ducks. The ducklings were dark spotty yellow feathered, with dark gray beaks. The adult ducks were a pee-stained yellowish-white color with feathers that looked like you'd plucked them, and light gray beaks.
