It's tough being a writer. I try to write every day, but sometimes the creative juice just isn't flowing. I look back over my words later, or the next morning, and I think, eurgh! did I really write that?

Typos glare at me. Stacked adjectives smirk. My character is confused at my tense hopping. "Thats" appear to be breeding and we will soon be overrun. Speech tags and cliches cluster together in a gaggle and mock me.

l print it out, uncap my red pen, and get to work.

Cutting isn't enough. It's lacking something. Some "oomph".

I've heard killing characters off is the thing to do these days. Readers are put off by predictable plot points and jaded by saccharine "happily ever afters". GRRM changed the game. Folks snort at a main character (or any character) in plot armour these days.

I fondle the page, and twirl my vicious red pen again, chewing my lip.

I make a decision.

It's a tough one, and this is going to be hard, because I love these characters. I mean, I really love them. They're not just "characters" to me. But it's no use. Sex and death, that's what the people want. I'm going to have to kill off some of these suckers.

Anyway, that's how my autobiography is coming along. How are you?

Ugh, you typed the "a" word. I don't know if I'll ever get one done. Maybe I could do it in installments? Great stuff here, L.C!

Do you actually do the printing and writing on your work thing?? I do and don't know anyone else that does it... 😅 Anyway, congrats on honourable mention on this week's leaderboard!!

lol, sounds a little frustrated, to an extent ;)

  • Hahahahahahahahha I saw a meme with this concept! Anyway, this would be the only non fiction that I read. It gotta be spicy. Not sex spicy. But murder spicy hehehehe

Nice autobiography. Frustration purge-kill off a character lol

  • Good chuckle LC. It's hard when you love a character but he or she doesn't add any more value to a story. I would repurpose these fellows!

First love the twist at the end. But regarding the topic: I regularly have unhappy endings or off a character. My wife does not care for it. I realize people like a happier finale. Lately I try to keep it lighter, but sometimes the damn character just asks for it. However I do not believe in doing so for shock value alone, it has have a point and be relative to the story. ( in my story ‘king of the hill’ one of the characters was to die but i ended up just hinting she did then brought her back, so as. Not to be too negative of an ending). So far I think your stories have been spot on, it is what I look forward to when reading your work. Look forward to reading your autobiography 😂 lol Cheers

Love this! Big laugh for the finale. Harper Collins published my novel: it's filled with sex, classified as erotica, but it did not fly off the shelves! Perhaps I should've killed off some characters - I don't think any of them died in that work, not including "little death", of course.

After this coffee I am great. After I saw the word 'sex' I became better. I read this and it sounded so poetic. You're not going to believe this, but you should. Its a masterpiece. This was your set up: I can't write so I am going to write anyway. But it might be an accidental masterpiece... Masterpiece. But hey, if you're having real issues with your writing process. I've got a video I just found last night. It's really helpful with these problems you're having. I promise it works. I accidentally tried it before watching the video. And now I have a name for it because of the video. Let me know if you would like the link to it. 'Sex and death, that's what the people want' it's the unfortunate truth. I also heard somewhere that a story with no defined plot can be all the rave too. 🤗❤️

hahahahaha. This is brilliant. Love the very real frustration and relatability of that, of what it can be like to be a writer. And the chef's kiss, twist. Imprressively done. LC. Well done. I was grinning like the Cheshire throughout this.
