Introduction

This is from a Vocal Resource prompt, number 9 in this list:

Breaking Glass

"The sound of breaking glass woke me up..."

At first, I wasn't sure what was happening, I live on the tenth story of a high-rise block. There are no windows in my bedroom, but it was deathly cold, colder than I'd ever known it to be.

Part of this was that there had been no power to heat the building for the last week. There wasn;t even electricity so I was in the dark.

I pulled on a nightgown but I was freezing, my hands and feet already turning blue.

I I got into the kitchen and the glass was shattered by the cold, and the cold hit me like a hammer in the face.

We had been warned and warned that this was going to happen. Climate Change and global warming is not just about heat, it is about phenomenal cold as well.

There was nothing I could do.

I got back into bed with my nightgown on, and hoped that my body warmth could keep me going until morning.

What a story wonder why it is so cold for could it be a portal to a spiritual world of ghosts and spirits of one kind or another or could be the city is just being their slow selves. Good job.

Yikes, I wouldn’t wanna be in that high-rise if that happened! Just think you’re trying to walk back barefoot across the floor through broken glass, hoping to stay warm.
