Big Deal
John & Paul’s Happiness and Light Unofficial Challenge
Hey, how was your week?
Great! I stopped to smell the roses…
Wow! You’ve got roses?
Well yes, but I merely caught a glimpse of them through my kitchen window.
So, you didn’t smell your roses? That’s sad!
Don’t fret… I’ll get there yet. Vibrant roses like sentinels, stood at attention, lining each side of a path meandering through the Botanical Gardens. Their fragrances wafted over me as I strolled on by to the Farmer’s Markets.
So, you actually made it to the rose gardens, then snagged heaps of market bargains…
No, not a single thing to enticed me to open my purse.
That’s a pity… what a shame to waste your time!
Not at all! My bank balance stayed steady unlike my heart rhythm in that veritable ‘Puppy Patting Paradise’. How those canines capered and lolloped about, the perfect accessory to their matching owners. A sleek whippet glided alongside her rail-thin ‘Girl’ while a boxer dog strained at the leash, impassively held by his muscular ‘body builder’ ‘Boy’. What a Dopamine hit!
Okay… so the rest of your week was just the typical work, eat, sleep?
Well, it’s Spring-time ‘Down Under’, so my day dawns bright and early, with wallabies wandering and parrots screeching… perfect!
You poor thing, how dreadful to have your sleep cut short!
What? Nature’s alarm clock beats electronic buzzing by miles metres. Hudson, my Labrador tap-dances at my back door, raring to have first sniff at the day’s scents, dragging me from tree to post and path.
Fine, you have a weird way of coping with early starts and had a passable week. Big deal!
Hang on a minute, does the saying “Laughter is the best medicine” ring a bell? I was blessed by a hefty dose this week playing a new card game, “Spot It”. A cacophony of voices blended with hands snatching and flinging cards; adrenaline spiking, laughter ringing and hearts zinging. I lost… but at least I lost impressively.
Sounds ‘thrilling’… are you done yet?
Almost… Saturday swiftly turned up, as it always does… Thank-you! Sun shining, birds tweeting sweet songs, off I sped to a nearby parkrun. Lately, my heels have not been in tip-top form, but they do the best they can. At 7 am they joined a few hundred other pairs of heels to stagger speed around the course. Cantering up and down the laneway, was an excellent opportunity to scope out friends, competition and of course, delightful dogs, while my feet kept time with the beat of music pouring from my earbuds. The verdict? A whopping 8 seconds off last week’s time and at last… #99 parkRun done and dusted. It’s only taken me seven years to get there. Next week… #100!
What a week!
What a life!
Friends, family, fun and fitness!

I kinda felt like I was reading the written version of my inner dialogue... I'm glad I stumbled upon this through Pauls winner's announcement. Congrats on the placement! 🎉

I bought roses again this week for Ruth and we have a rose bush that will be in its third year in 2026. So definitely agree. This was fab and well done getting to 99 and 200 parkruns. Thank you for entering and spreading your joy. I'm currently playing catch-up with John and reading the entries. When I've conferred with him we should have the results in the coming week.
Stopping to smell the roses is definitely the deal. Loved the energy in this.
Such a unique entry! Best of luck in the challenge, Angie!
I absolutely loved this. It felt like chatting with a friend over coffee! Such a vibrant, joyful read full of life’s little moments.
This piece radiates positivity and gratitude in the most delightful way. The conversational tone pulls readers right into your week, celebrating simple joys that often go unnoticed.
Filled with light and happiness, well done!
I guess some people would never understand the way we live our lives and that's okay. We just gotta do what makes us happy. Loved this! Also, there's a small typo to the word "coping" in this line: "Fine, you have a weird way of copiing with early starts and had a passable week."
