"I can't let the kids down," Keith whispered.
"You're mad!" Tanya hissed, sharply. "We're being held hostage and you're thinking about being Santa? We'll be lucky to get out of this alive!"
"We need a Christmas miracle," Keith said and closed his eyes tightly and prayed.
Remarkably, Dwight, the ex-marine chose this moment to surreptitiously ease his knife from its hiding place, stabbing the gunman in the leg, then leapt to his feet, disarming the shooter, all without incident.
Keith opened his eyes as the cheer went up. Tanya turned to him incredulously.
"Guess you got your Christmas miracle, Santa."
