Trying Chicken Parm For The First Time
The life-changing experience of chicken, cheese, and sauce.
I know what you're thinking. What the hell right? Who on this Earth hasn't tried chicken parm? ME. And yes, it is as embarrassing as it sounds. For a long time, I lived with anxiety, which made it very hard for me to branch out when it came to pretty much anything. This, of course, included food.
For much of my life, I have struggled with texture issues. All while holding a general hate for change. It wasn't until I got on Prozac that I decided I would branch out and try foods that have given me quite the ick over the years.
So far, I've tried, wontons (absolutely in love), chocolate pudding (might die), olives ( dark time for me), along with a few other things. While in some areas I remain thoroughly grossed out by certain foods, it always feels super good when I find a new food I like.
One thing that has made me branch out, the entire reason I'm even writing this article, is my boyfriend. While Prozac has helped me in finding new foods to try, my boyfriend truly takes all the credit for this experience. I'd gone over to his house countless times with my daughter. One thing that became a tradition when he works late is for my daughter and I to have dinner together (I eat something light) and then I have a second dinner with my man when he comes home. By the way, two dinners is exactly as exciting as it sounds.
Well, one night he's home and while he is usually responsible for breakfast and I for dinner, we decided to switch it up. He made dinner that wonderful night and many others, but oh boy, this one sticks out. He asked me if I was in the mood for chicken parm. My response was "I'm not sure I've never had it." The look on his face...priceless. So he made it his mission that night to make sure I'd taste this delicacy once and for all.
We loaded up baby girl, setting off to a speedy trip to Wally-World where we picked up each ingredient. After a short grocery trip alongside tons of tiny human begging we left the store with the ingredients. Did the tiny human get the toy? I'll leave that to your imagination.
A few short minutes later, we are home. Just like that, dinner is being prepared. Don't get me started on the steaks my man makes. I could do a whole article about that on its own. Delicious, mouth-watering, leaving that man deserving to be ate up himself haha. That night he made those steaks, the chicken parm, and these beautiful squashes. Spoiled, I know, but a girl deserves it with the amount of frogs I kissed to get to my prince.
The squashes were perfectly seasoned. I'm not entirely sure what all he used in the dish but it was so delicious. A customer at his job brought them in for him straight from his garden. Let us talk about the main event, though.
Chicken Parm. Immediately, yes. I'm not entirely sure how I have gone this long without trying it, but I've definitely done a disservice to myself. Not only was the chicken cutlet crispy and juicy all in one, but the sauce tied it all together. The cheese was just the cherry on top. As an avid cheese lover, cheese on anything is always welcome. It was a perfect cross between two dishes I absolutely love. Crispy chicken and lasagna.
It was a perfect choice for dinner that night. I would recommend it to anyone who, too, has been living under a rock.
