Everything You Need To Know About The Russian Tea
Unlike other European countries, Russia has taken longer to adopt tea. It was not part of the Russian beverage culture until the early 17th century when Russian countries began importing small quantities from China. So tea was only for the elite of society. Thus, almost 200 years later, in the middle of the 19th century, trade with China began, making tea available to all.

A Lament for Meat and Cheese
When I was a teenager, I cut my teeth in a small town in south Mississippi named Purvis and I do mean small. We did not have a Walmart and had only a handful of restaurants of which three were fish houses that were common in the south during my youth in the late 90’s. My parents owned a patch of land that the whole family lived on and during the summer it needed constant attention. I spent hours for days on end on the tractor cutting grass or on the mower doing the same for the many individual yards. I would get up early and work till lunch before having to find something to eat for myself. Both my parents worked some 30 miles away in a nearby, “larger” town and so often I was by myself for lunch. I would get into my truck and if I did not want to drive 60 miles to the big town there and back or into Purvis which was a 30 miles round trip (yes I lived in the middle of nowhere), I really only had one choice of place to eat.

Is anyone else in love with vintage recipes?
Is anyone else fascinated with vintage recipes? The following recipes came out of an old Duke Energy cookbook which was compiled from recipes right here in North Carolina! I got the cookbook for free in a big box that was placed outside of a local book shop.

The Nostalgic Appeal Some People Have for Soda Shops Today
Today, Soda Shops are somewhat unknown. However, back in the 1950s and up until the 70s, they were prominent inside the local drugstore in a lot of towns we lived in. For children and teens of these eras, it was fun to go in and look around the store, then sit down on one of the silver stools that lined the soda counter for a cherry cola with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

60s Girls and Women
I’ve always associated 50s and 60s aesthetics with puff skirts, pinup pictures, and tiny-waisted girls sitting in diners and drinking milkshakes with cherries on top. And I always wondered, how do they manage to stay so fit with all these milkshakes? It turns out, while fast food meals were a rare treat in the 1950s they had plenty of healthy food recipes as well, such as this lovely dal soup, to stay fit.

Vintage Fast Food Menus That Look Way Better Than Today's
Fast food menus have become insane these days, with many people associating the entire industry with American-style excess. A typical fast food menu today will have dozens of items on it, most of which will be over 1,000 calories in total.

Retro Foods That Are Due for a Comeback
When most of us think about retro recipes, we tend to think of those culinary disasters that our grandparents seem to love for no apparent reason. Things like those weird jello salads and mayonnaise-laden artery clogging "salads" are what we assume everyone ate in the 50s. And, for the most part, retro recipes are pretty terrible.
