The Best Food
The Best Food. Part 2. The best food exists and it’s a [insert your idea of the best food]. Does it tick the boxes for nutrition, calories, taste, joy, sustainability, convenience, instagramability, home-madeness, locality, community support, etc., etc… ? Or you might think the best food is - in the words of Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart “I know it when I see it”.

Vegan fast food options
Recently , Kevin hart opened a vegan restaurant , called hart house. In the restaurant they have burgers , shakes , fries , and tots . Then the vegan chicken sandwich in either crispy , deluxe crispy , and turn up the heat. They also have nuggets in a four and eight piece. In addition to this wonderfully amazing news London Burger King has 25 vegan options , and has two entirely meatless locations. Taco Bell is adding beyond meat to the menu . In the most exciting news I’ve heard . You can also get a black beams wrap minus cheese and creamy jalapeño . You can also add rice or potatoes to the crunch wrap too. One Year Trying a Plant Based Diet - the start
I have to be honest to myself. I have eaten myself to illness again. I’m one of those people that have lost and gained weight since I was 11. A few years ago - before COVID, before my sister died, I watched “What the Health” on Netflix. Ironically I was sitting there watching it as I ate fried chicken and french fries. I never finished that fried chicken. And then I watched Forks Over Knives which is on Amazon now but at the time was on Netflix. I started reading piles of books:

Actually, Vegans Don't Lecture People Enough
‘How do you know if someone’s vegan? Don’t worry, they’ll tell you,’ the trite saying goes. The reality is that for most vegans, most of the time, people find out we’re vegan when asking why we’ve declined an offer of food or overhearing us ask a waiter what the vegan options are, not because we’ve brought up the subject. Far from being subject to harassment or unfair scrutiny, the people who make such ‘jokes’ are getting off lightly.

What's Really Extreme?
You know you’re running up against powerfully ingrained norms when a simple sticker gets your movement labelled as extreme. Usually when we hear about extremism, we think of people who use violence to further their aims. When you’re vegan, all it takes is a sticker.

Gluten Free Summer
When I think of Summer there are so many things that pop into my head. Warm, toasty sunrays hitting fair, freckled skin. The sound of laughter and splashing coming from the pool. Waves gently crashing against the golden sand. The drip of that single drop of perspiration sliding off an ice cold beverage cup. And yes, the scrape, rustle and cheerful chatter of people having their picnics and barbeques. It's such a joyous and bright time of year I don't always think of food right away and yet there it is, inherent in everything. The item all our social gatherings revolve around. An item that in fact many take for granted, but for those of us who are medically gluten free it's not always so easy.

Refreshing Summer Food
To me summer food was anything we could eat around the pool. Anything cool and refreshing. For us that meant Pasta Salad and Three Bean Salad. I know that sounds like a crazy combination. It is really good though. We usually used the box Pasta Salad and canned Three Bean Salad. It was great to just have something you can do quickly and eat beside the pool in the shade and just relax.

An Elite Spread
Peanut butter is elite, a monarch in its category, liege of spreads and saviour of poorly seasoned dishes. In the summer of 2020 a friend and I confirmed our theories on the near magical properties of peanut butter. New to cooking vegan dishes, we were nearly undone by our chickpea curry, it was lacking in many categories; texture, colour, smell and most importantly taste, but several heaped spoons of that golden paste later and we were set. This was a summer of discoveries, experimentation is the key to development no matter the genre and we were on a warpath; peanut butter in coffee, in soup, on bread with banana (a classic to be fair), or on particularly lazy nights simply adding a scoop to boiled rice, hell we were ready to start moisturising with it at this point. Later that summer was when we found the pièce de résistance of our dishes to date, rice paper rolls. In all honesty I had been making them for years, and had loved them since my introduction to them whenever that had occurred, but the addition of peanut butter to my usual sauce had brought a wholly other love for them to light.
