Farm to Table
Farm to Table Lucille looked down at the cast iron skillet on top of her range. “Sunnyside up,” she whispered. That is what her grandmother used to call fried eggs. I’ve never tasted a fried egg as good as my grandmother’s. And I’ve never been able to duplicate her technique.”

A Spell For Nostalgia. Honorable Mention in A Taste of Home Challenge.
My mom died when she was only 53 from Ovarian Cancer. I was the eldest of my siblings at 23, and though the time we had her with us feels far too little far too often, I often feel lucky to have known her the longest. I was the only one whose college graduation she got to attend. Her favorite hobbies in life were working out and making food- whether that was cooking or baking. For someone in as good a shape as she was in to die so young just proves that fate is unfair and how long we have is completely unpredictable even if we take good care of ourselves.

The Lost Soup
Bunia acquired her name in the 1970s. The Polish word for grandma is babcia. Babunia is its diminutive, sweet-sounding form. It was too long for my three-year-old memory though, so she became Bunia, an even sweeter, rainbow-unicorn-with-glitter-on-top version of the word. This was what I continued to call her for ten years.

Comfort in Casserole . Runner-Up in A Taste of Home Challenge.
My wife is from the heart of the Midwest and one thing she is unapologetic for is her love of a good, hot, hearty casserole. She’s a northeastern Ohio gal, from the Cleveland area to be specific. As a Navy brat who grew up a little bit of everywhere, I also know the love of a good, tasty casserole. My Mom had four kids of her own to feed with varying schedules. A casserole dish was often quick, easy, and generally satisfied all four of us without complaints. Warm, creamy, sometimes cheesy, sometimes… a little strange, there’s just something uniquely special about a nice casserole. From their very origins in medieval France, casserole meals were meant to bring together a community or family over a recipe handed down through generations.

Cabbage Rolls
At the bottom, I will be sharing a recipe that is like the recipe my grandma did. Since my grandma didn’t write out the recipe. Nor can I ask her about it as she isn’t available for me to ask. It’s basic but sometimes basic food can be the nicest. The food is ‘Cabbage Rolls’ and it was one of my favorite dishes while growing up. My grandpa used to tell us that it was ‘Pigs in a Blanket’. Because my grandpa thinks he’s funny. He’s sometimes right about that.

Tesco Cheese Recall: What You Need to Know
Understanding the Tesco Cheese Recall Food safety is a major concern, and recently, there has been significant attention on the recall of several Tesco cheese products. Mom's Strawberry Love
My mother was a smart and loving mother who can handle anything coming at her. Loosing her own mother at 10 to TB, she had to be a mother of two younger sister and brother until her father married again. Because they were so young, they do not remember their biological mother at all. Before she passed away, she was at the hospital for a year. Her children were not allowed to visit her due to the highly contagious nature of the illness, tuberculosis.

The Evolution of Our Kitchen
Ahh, the joys of being Penna Dutch... and obsessed with food. When my great-to-the-fourteenth ancestor, John Jacob Dreibelbis, came over as an indentured servant, he was given a parcel of land after working for seven years. His son, Jacob B, was the one who founded the farm at the end of town. Nowadays, owning a piece of land implies you're rich. Then? Dirt poor. The kitchen still has two shadowboxes of glued fish bones in patterns from the suckers they net-trapped in the river, the only part of the fish that's inedible.

Chicken Soup for the Generations
The aroma of the kitchen will always be felt around the house. Each meal was made with the loving hands of both my grandma and mom. I try to cook my best, but never as delicious as them. The food was just as tasty but brought so much comfort. It was always a unifying time. Years of many meals, from the simplistic ones to the complicated ones. Each was a product of her sacrifice for our family. However, I had my favorites, and that list was great. One of the best was my grandma's homemade chicken noodle soup. This recipe passed down from each generation, is not just a dish but a symbol of our family's love and unity. Each sip was made to taste great and be a healthier option than the ones loaded with preservatives. It was passed down to my mother, who held the recipe. My grandma was always making all her meals from scratch, and this was one of them. All her cooking was excellent, and I never lost weight on every visit.

Tea Time Under the Tree
The warm August breeze whispering through the hazel nut tree and bees buzzing near the Japanese anemone created a hum in the air that was scented with roses. Robert sat at the table, reading and sipping on a tea with the neighbor’s cat sitting on the chair next to him.
