Large Cherry Almond Sharing Cake!
Of course, you probably know me very well for invading Vocal with my film studies stuff and articles entitled ‘a filmmaker’s guide’. I have often explained that I love to bake as well. Since I was young, I have loved the idea, the creativity and the relaxation of baking different things. I love to make macarons, layer cakes and gingerbread in particular and the activity of it really gets me away from my laptop (where I’m sure you know that I spend most of my life). So, I hope you enjoy me talking about what I bake and why I bake it complete with pictures (if not very good) of me actually baking, my baked goods in the process of being created and when they’re finished. I’m really happy to share this with you. And if you like, you can show me your baking (yes, I spend a lot of time writing, but I also spend a lot of time reading other people’s articles!), I would love to see it. Since I was in school, I was always interested in creating things, whether that be pieces of writing, welding things to make small statues or baking foods and making sweets (candy, if you’re American). I hope you enjoy looking at some of the stuff that has honestly kept me sane, because I seem to be going slightly mad.

Banana Bread
Banana Bread Ready in 1 ½ hours Serves~ 6 people I believe that recipes are guidelines, these can be switched and changed, I grew up with a very hard working mother, gone from morning to dark every day to support our family of 4. Yet she always had time to back for our school lunches. I miss those days, don't we all? The simplicity of being a child, where our only responsibility was to clean our rooms and put our laundry in the hamper. My fondest memories were of me and my mother, on sick days. She would wait until my two sisters were gone to school and me being the slow poke of her three girls, she would look at me and say, "You look sick." with a smile on her face. I remember the excitement, knowing what those words would bring. She would put on her vinyl, Loverboy, or Bob Segar, sometimes a bit of Red Rider, but most fondly I remember the Beatles, and crank the knob. Mouthwatering peanut butter cookies! My job was to press the fork into each one making tail criss cross markings. I remember the joy of opening my lunch box and seeing that shiny apple and those hand made cookies. It's a tradition I kept with my son. Who doesn't need a sick day here and there? Banana bread was rare in our house, we were on a budget and with three girls there were rarely any bananas left. But that thick warm bread with butter melting down our fingers still so fresh in my mind. It's a memory I hold so dearly. Now as I was saying above recipes are guidelines, change it up, add walnuts, or raisins, my partner loves chocolate chips in his. It's personal when we bake, these recipes are more than just recipes. They are words of love, personal gifts we give our children, family and friends. It's almost like magic, a pinch of this and a dollop of that, mix it up with a smile. Don't get me started on how it filled our homes with blissful smells that will stay with us for a lifetime. Food is for sharing, when you give someone food, it is saying I love you, and I want to give you something of myself.

WJ'S CHEESY PRETZELS
During the beginning of the first lockdown during co-vid, a male friend and I teamed up. Instead of being bored, since we couldn't work at that time. We went to Granny's. We knew we could be more useful by keeping her and Uncle off the streets and out of the stores. Health compromised, neither of them could afford to come down with the co-vid. We had come to an agreement between all of us, that would keep them in and us at their beck and call. So we thought. These two were using the tricks I'm sure their own kids had tried. Plus how can you expect them to not want to get out of the house when they were always home after retirement. After co-vid lockdown I totally understand how one would want to just get out and drive around. It didn't take long for the two of us to get bored.

Ginger, Toffee and Lime Cupcakes [+ a Surprise Inside!]
In this chapter of ‘the filmmaker’s guide’ we’re actually going to be learning about literature and film together. I understand that many of you are sitting in university during difficult times and finding it increasingly hard to study and I understand that many of you who are not at university or not planning on it are possibly stuck of what to do, need a break or even need to catch up on learning film before you get to the next level. This guide will be brief but will also contain: new vocabulary, concepts and theories, films to watch and we will be exploring something taboo until now in the ‘filmmaker’s guide’ - academia (abyss opens). Each article will explore a different concept of film, philosophy, literature or bibliography/filmography etc. in order to give you something new to learn each time we see each other. You can use some of the words amongst family and friends to sound clever or you can get back to me (email in bio) and tell me how you’re doing. So, strap in and prepare for the filmmaker’s guide to film studies because it is going to be one wild ride.

Comforts Brought To You From The Other Side. Top Story - November 2020.
With the holidays around the corner, I decided this year to purposely make these the most memorable holidays I possibly can for my children and I. My boys are starting to get to the age where they will start remembering traditions and make memories to share with their families as they get older and have kids of their own.
