Spreads for Toast, Biscuits, And Pancakes
There are many spreads to choose from for your toast, biscuits, and pancakes.

Toast, biscuits, and pancakes can be made even more delicious by adding a topping, and there are several toppings you can choose from. For variety, you can have a different topping for every day of the week.
Butter or Margarine

Some people eat either butter or margarine on their toast rather than sweet jellies or jams. Either butter or margarine can be used, but butter is often preferred for its taste and texture, while margarine is often chosen for its potentially lower saturated fat content.
If consumers want to enhance their breakfasts, they can surely add a sweet topping from the list below.
Jelly

Jelly is made from fruit juice. Its texture is smooth, firm, and translucent, with no visible fruit pieces. Jelly comes in several flavors: grape, strawberry, peach, and other fruit juices.
Jelly is not limited to only breakfast toppings. Children and some adults will tell you that they like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches any time of the day.
Jam

Jam is made with mashed, crushed, chopped, or puréed fruit. Its texture is chunkier, looser, and more spreadable than jelly. Jam contains pieces of fruit or fruit pulp. Like jellies, jams come in many fruit flavors.
The major difference between jelly and jam is that jelly is made with fruit juice, while jam is made with pieces of the fruit.
Preserve

Preserves contain whole fruit or large pieces of fruit. Like jellies and jams, preserves are a classic and delicious topping for toast and biscuits, offering a sweet and fruity flavor that many enjoy.
Fruit preserves are similar to jam, but they're slightly thicker due to the addition of large chunks or whole pieces of fruit instead of chopped, crushed, or puréed fruit.
Marmalade

Marmalade is made from citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, or grapefruits. The whole fruit makes marmalade, including the peel, pulp, and juice. It has a sweet, tangy, and slightly bitter flavor.
Marmalade is closer to a preserve than jelly and jam because it contains parts of the rind and the inner fruit and pulp.
Fruit Butter
Fruit butter is made from puréed fruit. It is not as sweet as preserves, jams, or jellies, but the thick, smooth spread has a full fruit flavor that is delicious on toast and biscuits.

Chutney is made with fruits like mango, cranberry, pineapple, and savory ingredients. It is the most savory fruit spread and contains less sugar than other fruit spreads.
A compote is a spreadable, syrupy sauce made from whole fruit or chunks. It is not very sweet. Compote often includes spices like ginger, cinnamon, or star anise. It’s also delicious over ice cream, in parfaits, and on waffles.
Nutella

Nutella is different from fruit spreads. It is a popular, creamy hazelnut and cocoa spread known for its unique taste and creamy texture, often enjoyed on toast and pancakes or as a filling for desserts. Some people eat Nutella on toast as a snack.
Summary
The chart below shows the spreads and their contents. Consumers have no problem finding them in the grocery stores and at some farmers' markets. The grocery shelves are usually stocked for the many households that keep them on hand for their families.

Comments Please!
Comment on your favorite spread. I favor jelly and jam in most flavors on toast. I didn't eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as a child, and have only eaten them once or twice as an adult. Don't judge me, but I have never eaten Nutella.
