Pakistani food culture has been influenced by many places. Pakistani food has many similar elements to Indian cuisine.

Before independence, Pakistan was part of the same empire as India for much of its history. However, as a Muslim country, Pakistan shows Islamic food laws (e.g. no pork or alcohol) and compared to India, it has been more influenced by Iran and the Middle East. A lot of different types of stews are eaten from meat dishes, but different kebab-type meat skewers are also popular in Pakistan.

Typical ingredients or elements of a Pakistani meal are at least basmati rice and bread baked in a tandoor oven such as naan or chapati.

Lentils, which are somewhat unknown to Finns, are also quite an important raw material in Pakistan. Pakistani food is often strongly flavored and spicy to the Finnish mouth. Spices used a lot are e.g. garam masala, ginger, cumin seeds, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, coriander and black pepper.

Essential Pakistani dishes

Biryani is a pot dish where rice, spices, and meat or chicken are cooked in the same pot. Rice is usually colored yellow with the help of turmeric.

Haleem is a stew made of meat, wheat, and lentils, served with naan bread.

Nihari is a long-simmered lamb stew that is seasoned with long pepper

In Europe, Pakistani cuisine is most prominently displayed probably in Britain because of the large Pakistani diaspora, and in Britain, there are also variations of Pakistani cuisine that have not traditionally been eaten in Pakistan itself.

In Pakistan, because of Islam, it is not customary (at least not very publicly and officially) to drink alcohol, but tea is a very important drink that ends many meals

11 Traditional Pakistani Dishes You Must Try

Pakistan has some of the most diverse and flavorful recipes in the world due to the endless number of special herbs and spices available, and each traditional dish has a deep history that connects it to a specific province. The diverse geography, which stretches from deserts to the world's highest mountain peaks, creates a wide variety of recipes, each with a unique flavor.

Biryani

Biryani is a mixture of delicious yellow rice and either chicken or beef. The rice gets its color from a selection of spices and herbs, which also adds a great taste. To top it off, it includes fully cooked lemons, tomatoes, and potatoes.

Chicken Tikka

Chicken tikka is one of the most popular foods in Pakistan, both for taste and nutritional value, that is, if it is not accompanied by "naan". It's an awesome portion of chicken-flavored traditional spices and then grilled to perfection. You can get the ultimate experience by dipping the chicken pieces in the accompanying mint sauce.

Channa Chaat

"Channa" means vegetable fritters and is one of the most loved snacks in Pakistan. In this tasty light liver, chickpeas are mixed with various vegetables such as tomatoes and onions and topped with a sauce that creates a bittersweet eating experience.

Samosas

A samosa is a stuffing jar made of floured triangles stuffed with green chilies, an assortment of finely chopped herbs, and boiled potatoes. You can also find them with different meats, such as lamb, chicken, and beef. These tasteless bites are so filling that you won't want a main course afterward.

Sajji

Sajji is a dish that can originate from the province of Balochistan. It is one of the main specialties of traditional Pakistani cuisine and consists of a large piece of either lamb or chicken stuffed with rice and coated with a tasty green papaya paste. It is then placed on a skewer and roasted for several hours.

Haleem

Haleem is a mixture of traditional staples used in Pakistani cuisines such as wheat, barley, minced meat, mutton, or chicken. It is a dish that takes a long time to prepare, as the lentils and special juices need plenty of time to combine with the proper ground beef to create a unique paste that delights the senses.

Nihari

Nihari is one of the country's most famous steaks. It is served to guests on important occasions and contains meat that has been slowly cooked and seasoned overnight. With the help of the food preparation process, the dish is completely absorbed by the reclining bone marrow, which creates the best-tasting meat dishes in the world.
