I consider myself an adventurous eater for the most part. I enjoy trying new foods and cuisines as each new dish opens up a palette of new and delicious opportunities.

There have been several cultural dishes that I’ve never heard of before until I was introduced to them. Now I absolutely love them and can’t wait to savor them. The Vietnamese dish, pho, is one such example. Having a hot and savory bowl of pho preferably with chicken is a much-needed way to treat myself.

Another is sushi. While I’ve heard of the popular Japanese dish long before I’ve ever tried it, I admit, it took me a while to feel comfortable eating it. The idea of eating raw fish turned me off while part of me did want to try it.

And then a friend introduced me to a sushi restaurant with a menu that overflowed with a majority of enticing sushi dishes along with some other dishes as well. Each sushi dish was a blend of interesting flavors I never considered to be blended together like cream cheese and mango.

Now, I’ve gone from someone who wouldn’t even turn to look at sushi, to someone who now eagerly grabs a few rolls to add to my plate.

There are quite a few dishes I’ve not tried before, but I hope that will soon change.

Indian Cuisine

I must say, I’ve never really had Indian cuisine except for naan, but I would love to try.

I’ve heard of most of these dishes and know just a little bit about them but that’s all I know.

Butter Chicken

Such an Indian cuisine I’d be eager to try is butter chicken. Butter chicken has a blend of spicy and savory spices that includes tomato, butter, garlic and other spices made into a sauce.

Chana Masala

Another Indian cuisine I’d be willing to try is Chana Masala. Chana Masala which consists of a chickpea curry is a vegetarian dish and as expected, has a savory blend of spices and seasonings. It’s quite popular in India.

I must admit, I’ve never really had chickpeas before and am not really a fan of hummus, the only dish I’ve every tried that contains chickpeas, but Chana Masala sounds like I dish I know I’d probably like!

Tandoori Chicken

Another popular Indian dish, Tandoori Chicken is yet another Indian cuisine that would be on my list of cuisines to try. The dish consists of marinated chicken meat in a blend of tandoori masala, nutmeg, and cumin and is served on skewers. I would love to try some now!

Indian cuisine sounds so delicious and savory!

African Cuisine

Now, I have never had African cuisine before and it is a dish that I imagine having a vast blend of not only savory spices and seasonings but full of diversity ranging from region to region.

Muamba de Galinha

From Angola, this African dish consists of a chicken in a blend of peanut butter and okra. Rice is most often served with it. To me, peanut butter, okra, and chicken is a rather interesting flavor combination, but I’ve learned one can be pleasantly surprised when trying new flavor combinations you might not be too sure about. It’s a way to open our taste palettes.

Jollof Rice

A deliciously sounding African side dish I’d be willing to try is Jollof Rice. Popular in many African regions, this spicy dish consists of rice in a blend of chili pepper, onions, and tomato.

Poulet à la Moambé

Another dish I would love to try, Poulet à la Moambé is somewhat similar to the previously mentioned Muamba de Galinha as it also consists of a blend of chicken, peanut butter and various spices.

From the Congo, it contains peanut butter, garlic and ginger of which chicken is marinaded in. After it’s marinaded, it’s fried to crispy perfection.

I’ve seriously never heard of this dish but would be eager to try! It, along with the other African dishes mentioned, amongst many more, I’m sure, sounds so savory and flavorful!

Caribbean Cuisine

Caribbean Cuisine is one dish in particular that I’ve always wanted to try as it blends smoky and spicy flavors with that of the tropics. Yum!

Jerk Chicken

Easily one of the most iconic and recognizable carribbean dishes, jerk chicken is surprisingly one dish I’ve never really tried.

Jerk chicken consists of a spicy blend of dry rub and wet rub that’s generously coats chicken or other preferred meats and then slow cooked. The process is very time consuming but well worth it, I am sure!

Next time I come to a Caribbean restaurant, I will try some!

Pescado con Coco

Rich and savory and full of flavor, this dish from the Samana bay of the Dominican Republic features fish cooked in a blend of vegetables, herbs, and coconut milk sauce.

Roti

This interesting, simple yet delicious sounding dish reminds me almost of a tortilla wrap but not quite. Consisting of a thin and flaky texture, roti consists of the simple ingredients of flour, butter, and salt. Inside a roti are savory stewed or curried meats and vegetables.

I must ask, as someone who’s never tried any of these delicious sounding dishes, what do you recommend? What other cuisines that I didn’t mention on my list do you recommend I try? Maybe I’ll find a new favorite!
