Friends if you love to eat “momos” then this blog is for you, because I'm going to share everything about Momos here. From “What is Momo” to “How to cook Momo?” You're going to find everything in one blog. So, let's get started.

What is Momo?

Well, basically Momo is a Tibetan cuisine. It's typically filled with meat and vegetables and is often served with dipping sauce. In today's world its popular all over the world, especially in the South Asian part; Nepal, Bhutan, India, Bangladesh, Japan, South Korea.

Where does the name “Momo” come from?

The name Momo came from Tibetan word “mog mog” which means “steamed bread”. Later the word “mog mog” formed into “Momo”. But it's also known in different names in different countries. Like Korean people knows them as “Mandu”.

How many types of “Momo”?

There are various types of Momos. Like basic steamed Momos, deep fried Momos, soupy Momos, cheese Momos, vegetable Momos, meat Momos (chicken, pork, beef). If you can prepare the basic Momo, then it be very easy to prepare others.

How to cook?

Trust me, the process of making Momo is very easy. You need to prepare the Momo dough, the filling and the dipping sauce. So, let's get started.

Starting with the dough;

Ingredients:

Flour (2-3 cup)

Salt (for taste)

Sugar (for balance)

Water

Oil(to make the dough moisture)

Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl evenly. Then add water gradually as much as needed to make a perfect dough. After preparing the dough brush some oil on it. Cover the dough with any lid or plastic wrap. This step keeps the dough moisture. Keep the dough aside.

Then we have to prepare the filling, I’m sharing the meat felling recipe;

Ingredients:

Meat paste (chicken, pork, beef)

Soya sauce (1 teaspoon)

Chopped onion, garlic, green chilly (1 tablespoon)

Black pepper (1\2 teaspoon)

Salt (a little bit because we're adding soya sauce)

Garlic paste (1\3 teaspoon)

Oil (2\3 cup)

Put the ingredients together in a bowl. Mix them well. Then put a pan on a stove in high flame. Heat the oil properly and then spill the hot oil into the mixture. Again, mix them well. This is the basic meat filling recipe. If you want vegetable or cheese filling, then follow the same steps. Just use vegetables instead and for cheese filling use a cheese cube with any filling for each momos.

Dipping sauce; there are varieties of Momo dipping sauce so I’m going to share the classic chilly oil. It's very easy to make.

Ingredients:

Chopped garlic and onion (2-3 tablespoon)

Oil (as much need)

Salt (enhancing flavor)

Sugar (for balance)

Mix the raw ingredients together. Heat the oil then spill the hot oil into the mixture. And that's it, your chilly oil is ready.

Now it's time to cook and serve momos.

Make small rotis with the dough, put the amount of filling needed into the roti and give it any shape like a classic dumpling shape, half-moon shape, C shape etc. You can find it on youtube.com to see the shapes. after making the momoms steam them in a steamer. You can use a classic bamboo steamer or if you don't have this you can use any kind of steamer instead. Steam them for10 to15 minutes, and your momos are ready.

How to serve?

Server them with chilly oil or any other sauce you love; tomato sauce, mayonnaise, or with plain soya sauce. In some countries people love to eat momos with soya sauce.

So now you all know everything about momo. Make yourself and enjoy friends.
