Denmark

A Danish omelet is a traditional Danish dish. It looks like an omelet or a thick pancake. The dish is made with a mixture of lightly, beaten eggs, milk, and flour and poured into a skillet. It is topped with slices of fried bacon, tomatoes, and chopped chives.

England

Scotch eggs are a popular British snack, They are made with hard-boiled eggs encased in sausage meat and coated with breadcrumbs and then deep-fried until they’re golden and crispy.

Coronation quiche is prepared with a dough made with lard. The dough is placed as a crust into a quiche dish and filled with cheddar cheese, eggs, double cream, milk, salt, and pepper. Spinach, broad beans, and tarragon are added. Then the quiche is baked until set.

Wales

Anglesey eggs are a traditional Welsh dish. It consists of hard-boiled eggs in a bed of soft mashed potatoes all topped with a thick, creamy sauce made with leeks, butter, and cheese, The dish is topped with grated cheese.

Bulgaria

Mish-Mash is a traditional Bulgarian dish that is made with eggs, tomatoes, peppers, sauteed onions, salt, and pepper and Bulgarian white cheese.

Germany

Bauernomelett is a simple German dish. The dish is made with bacon, onions, potatoes, parsley, eggs, and milk. The bacon, onions, and potatoes are sautéed slowly and when the potatoes start to brown the egg and milk mixture is poured into the pan. The omelet can be folded in half when served and can be topped with grated Emmentaler cheese,

Greece

Omeleta is a traditional Greek-style omelet. The base is made of whisked eggs seasoned with salt and pepper. Once the omelet is cooked it is filled with crumbled feta cheese, fresh tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and at times zucchini or even Kalamata olives. All the additional ingredients are cooked separately and flavored with oregano, parsley, and thyme before they are incorporated into the omelet.

Strapatsada is a popular Greek dish that is made with diced, sauteed tomatoes seasoned with herbs, mixed with lightly beaten eggs, and topped with crumbled feta cheese.

Italy

Frittata di Pasta is prepared with leftover pasta. Other ingredients include eggs, grated cheese, prosciutto, and sausage bits. Once the frittata is cooked it is flipped over on a plate and cut into wedges.

Spain

Tortilla de patata is a dish that consists of thinly sliced potatoes and eggs. After it is cooked it looks like a frittata. Thinly sliced potatoes are cooked in olive oil then mixed with beaten eggs and seasoned with salt. The egg and potato mixture is slow-cooked on both sides in a skillet. Additional ingredients include Serrano ham, mushrooms, and peppers.

Portugal

Ovos rotos is a dish that consists of fried potatoes topped with eggs sunny-side up. The potatoes can be fried with sausages. Usually, the eggs are broken and the yolk is mixed with the potatoes coating them.

Asia

China

Hao Jian/Oyster Omelet originated in the city of Chaozhon in the Fujian region of China. It is the signature dish of the Hokkien people. The dish is prepared with small oysters added to a mixture of potato starch and egg batter and can have a dash of spicy chili sauce mixed with lime juice.

Japan

Oyakodon is a dish that means “father and child”. The dish is pictured above. This refers to the fact that both the chicken and the egg are used in this dish. It consists of a bowl of white rice topped with chicken, eggs, and chopped scallions. The eggs are poured over the rice before they have completely cooked. The cooked rice helps to solidify the eggs. Fish stock dashi is combined with soy sauce, sugar, rice wine, and rice liquor in a pan and brought to a boil. Pieces of chicken thigh are added and cooked through. Other ingredients like shiitake mushrooms can be added.

Tamagoyaki is a Japanese omelet dish (pictured above). Eggs are seasoned with sugar, mirin, and soy sauce. On the pan, the eggs are folded into themselves until they are fully cooked.

Philippines

Torta is a popular Filipino dish that is made of an omelet filled with ground meat and vegetables like diced potatoes. There are variations like tortang torlong, an eggplant omelet, and tortang gulay, an omelet with onions, bell peppers, and garlic.

North America

Colorado

Denver omelet is an American dish created in Denver, Colorado. Eggs are whisked and poured into a frying pan, and cooked. The omelet is then filled with ham or bacon, onion, and green peppers.

New York

Eggs Benedict is the creation of Delmonico’s Restaurant in New York City. It has become a very popular dish. The dish is made with the toasted halves of an English muffin topped with a slice of ham or bacon, and a poached egg. Hollandaise sauce is poured over all.

Mexico

Huevos Rancheros is a traditional breakfast dish from Mexico. It consists of tortillas that are topped with eggs sunny-side up, beans, and salsa. Additional ingredients can include avocado slices, garlic-chili sauce, and melted cheese.
