parents
The boundless love a parent has for their child is matched only by their capacity to embarrass them.
My Mother's Scars
Normally animated movies thrill me. Not this one. At least…not at first. Merida’s strength, ferocity, and herculean, black shire called my name, but something about the princess stabbed at my heart. Queen Elinor not only resembled my mom, but the queen and her daughter coexisted about as well as I did with mine. I disobeyed and was as disrespectful as Merida.

Mom Says: Farm Animals go Inside
Growing up, with a mom as a RN. She would assist doctors bringing life into the world. “In my work, I can’t make mistakes, if I do, it could be someone’s life...” My mother has said this statement, for the last twenty plus years.

The Blind that Can See
I want to be a mother like her. Then maybe one day I’ll understand the context of love and strength that she has. They say ‘there is nothing like the bond between a mother and her child’. I believe this with all that I am and can’t wait to experience this strong bond as a mother. If I had to describe my mum in one word, it’d be ‘light’. She has always carried this bright atmosphere with her wherever she goes, no matter what darkness she encounters. Many of her family and friends describe her as the light of their life.

Her-story
You wouldn't know it by looking at that photo, but that woman has climbed out of poverty, broken oppressive cultural norms, raised 3 daughters (two of which being twins) as a faithful military spouse, and survived divorce. I could probably write a book series about all of the lessons my mom has taught me, including those I've learned through her, but I don't think it could ever amount to how much they've added to my life. But while we're here, I'll try to name a few.

A Mother's Truth
A Mothers Truth Throughout my whole life my mother told me that the world is full of demons; beings of higher consciousness who choose to indulge in sinful transgressions. Humans are ignorant of the ways of the fallen. The leader of the fallen ones- the ultimate enemy of God -was interested only in enslaving humanity. For thousands of year’s humans were led astray from the higher consciousness of living, minds submerged like being in the darkest part of the ocean, deprived of any source of light, encouraged to take the path of lust and loneliness instead of experiencing love. Daughters stray away from the wisdom of their fathers, sons experience the endless satisfaction of fornication to replace the hole in their hearts. With greed the fallen ones yearned for gold, forced humans into slave labor mining for riches instead of looking inside themselves for true wealth. They formed the evil hierarchy of upper echelon masters where the higher you rose, the more of the soul you had to give up. They taught the children of Earth how to make weapons out of a variety of metals, the sword, the shield, and the spear, which ultimately summoned a thirst for blood. Men would get the taste of battle and become blood drunk. Humans were never intended to know the ways of the scholar, the forbidden knowledge of the universe which included the likes of mathematics, markings on parchments and astrology. When humans were created, we were created divine and holy, pure and untainted.

A Legacy
I did not know! Some things you are explicitly taught at an early age like how to write your name and some things you learn inadvertently as you grow. Some things, you don’t know until one day, you realize just how MUCH you don’t know. The depth of my ignorance was mindboggling! I did not know until I became a Mom, how hard the position actually was. My Mother made it look so easy! She worked constantly, both outside of our home and in. I never saw the tears that she wept when alone nor those moments when indecision crossed her face as she grappled with which decision she should make for her children! I simply… did not know!

My Greatest Inspiration and Biggest Fan: My Mother
I grew up in Brentwood, an affluent white neighborhood, where my father managed an apartment building rent-free. Even though my parents were working-class immigrants, my parents gave me everything leading me to think I was rich. However, when I was twelve years old, my parents divorced, and my world turned upside down. I lived with my mother, who now struggled to make a living and support us. She started a meal delivery service before they were common, and with her hard work, many sleepless nights, and determination, she achieved the American Dream and bought her own house. However, the journey was far from smooth, with many setbacks.

My Mom Yvonne
Yvonne is my mom’s name. For those that were closest to her they called her Vonnie. It was a nickname she grew up with her entire life. Vonnie means “Victory bringer, womanly and brave”. I cannot think of a more fitting name for her. She carried her name with such pride, so much in fact that my middle name is Yvonne. A name in which I hope I was able to have shown her I also carry proudly.
