parents
The boundless love a parent has for their child is matched only by their capacity to embarrass them.
Inheritance
I've never really written about mom. At 34, it seems I'm now in an age when I feel quite uneasy being too close to my mother, not for anything, but just for the societal (masculine, macho) expectation that grown-up men need to display strength and independence.

Sweet Honesty
Mum gave me many gifts. She gave me the freedom to explore and be creative as a kid, she taught me how to sing and how to read and write. She read me bedtime stories from books and from her own imagination. I have fond memories of mum beside my bed, me, captivated as she narrated one of her fanciful made up stories. I can still feel her warmth, hear her soft, soothing voice and smell on her skin, the subtle fragrance of sweet honesty - her favorite perfume.

Two Imperfect Solitudes Protecting Each Other
A glow rests, trance-like, in her living room chair this May morning. The curtain stirs slightly, her favorite cat passing through it now and again. Ever since my mom’s passing on March 31st of last year, I’ve tried to put our past together into perspective. A daunting task. Much of what “happened” is re-imagined, edited, simplified. The more I try, the more I find my mother, the kind of person she was, elusive. She feels more mysterious to me now than she ever did. The extent of her influence is nigh impossible to gauge. Writing this almost comes across as an injustice to her, superficial as it’s bound to turn out, yet I’m compelled to continue anyway.

The Thousand Year Old Man
I have to confess that my friend and fellow writer and editor Carol Price has set me off on this course of speaking a little of growing old. The thing is I don't feel old and there's the rub, none of us do. My mother continued to work as a cook in a private, residential home for old folk. She worked until she lost her sight, at the grand old age of 78.

Consistency In Parenting
For a short time, I am a supervisor at the school of my daughters. There are two groups; group 1–4, and group 5–8. The last group is very difficult. This is because they are trying to belong to a certain group as they are searching for who they are. Also, they try to do what other children say them to do because they don’t want to be bullied.

Mum, can you love me as I am?
Growing up, I was not your average obedient child—a girl who despised mundane routines and caused endless disagreements. I chose to be a nonconformist in my family and community. Because I felt strayed and deep inside me, I had a longing to go home, wherever that was.

Sacrifice
SACRIFICE The Greatest Mother In The World My mother is the greatest mother in the WORLD! That is a saying that everyone who loves their mother says without fault. A mother, any mother, is the greatest mother in the world to that child who looks to her for guidance, protection, and love. A mother is so important to a child that God created that bond to start as a zygote. The bond created from making life, giving life, and then nourishing a child's life is priceless. . Your eyes, smile, laugh, and all the things you don't notice until you see your daughter or son. Guidance because you want your child to have the best of everything and grow with love and happiness... Protection because this is your world created in a form with you stamped on their every characteristic, and they become your everything. Love because you didn't realize that you could love someone so much that you will sacrifice everything so they can be happy. A mother who is willing to sacrifice her time, health, and money to provide a better life for their children is truly an angel without wings. So, as cliché as this sounds, My mother is the greatest mother in the world---to me!
