Why I Chose National American Miss Pageant
As a child, I was accepted into a modeling school and agency, as well as a beauty pageant. This was back in the early 90's. So, basically a long time ago. According to my mother, I hated it. When I hit puberty, I developed an endocrine imbalance. We all know when a woman has this issue, one of the most common side-effects is weight gain. For most of my teenage and young adult life, I was ostracized and criticized by people and doctors for being fat. My first husband even berated me for it in a very long, very emotionally abusive relationship. Beauty pageants just weren't my thing, after I got too 'fat' and no one who was anyone wanted anything to do with me.

Please Be Very Specific When Making a Request of An Autistic
"There's dog poop on the floor.” My aunt once said this to me as I was carrying some groceries through the enclosed porch and into the kitchen. My response was, “Oh, OK,” and I stepped around it each time as I took two or three more trips to get the rest of my shopping. I thought it was strange that she kept repeating the same thing as I went in and out of the door; “There's poop on the floor.” I thought, 'Yes, I know. I'm avoiding stepping in it, don't worry.'

Hold On Tight
Ok before I tell this story we are going to have to agree to disagree. If you are a young parent you are going to be tempted to tell me my father was a bad parent, and I would strongly disagree with you. On the other hand I would never under any circumstances tell you that you should be the kind of parent he was. I think we will have to agree that things that didn't seem out of the ordinary in the 1970's could be shocking today. So please dear reader take this as a story from a different time and not parenting advice.
