Survival talk
Perhaps you are wondering what talk I am referring to? What talk? Is it the sex talk perhaps in which we educate our children? Or is it the talk in which people of color give to their children on a daily basis? The talk is a discussion in which African American parents ( and other people of color) sit down with their children and explain to them how to survive. My parents told me ( a young black female) when going into a store don’t touch because people might think you are stealing. I was also told to be polite to police officers and never mouth off. There were other things as well that were taught but some I learned without my parents guidance. I learned from watching their ( rare) interactions with police.

New Year for you, just another day for me.
Everyday I don't feel the same. Using everyday of my life to create a way to help make this world safe. I'm a single dad of three, I have a small family but I want to make this whole world my family. How can I spread love without hate coming my way, something I sit and think on everyday. The way we see each other needs to change because you'll put down someone who helps someone everyday. I don't give to receive, I give to create peace. I don't feel good seeing someone standing out side in 30 degree weather begging for money, I might not have much at the time but I still give some peace.

A Very Merry Care Bear X-mas
Though very far away and not able to be there for Xmas, I want to send Happy Thoughts your way. Each of you have found a special place in my heart for many reasons. There is a very good chance that most of you don't know it but you have become the random family when my "family" wasn't. Not a single one of you are replaceable.

A Permanent Home For a Weary Traveler
For the first time in years I could relax. Living in space is harder than most people think. Living in ships with cramped quarters is no fun, especially if you’re sharing your space with someone who is obnoxious, or who snores so loud they cause the bunks to vibrate, or if you snore that loud. There’s very little to do other than the work of keeping the ship clean and functioning, which isn’t that difficult, so you find yourself trying to fill up your empty time with a lot of useless chatter, or by meditating, or working out. What kind of life is that?

Transformation
The stifling summer heat made my brother's suggestion of exploring the forest irresistible. A carpet of needles and rotting leaves beneath our feet, we threaded our way through pine, maple, and sourwood trees as some long-forgotten instinct drew us toward a stream teeming with frogs, snakes, crawdads, and freshwater eels. Walking along the banks of the shallow creek following its languidly moving current we came to the mouth of a narrow canyon. Here Mother Nature had brought individually insignificant drops of rain together using their collective power to carve a pathway through a slab of stone. Periodic flood waters paying homage to her power left gifts of debris lodged against the sides of the miniature gorge over the years where they became a permanent subtext to human extravagance.

When You Have Lost That Special Christmas Spirit
You're familiar with the sensation. That sigh as you snuggle on the couch with a Hallmark movie, the sparkle over all the activities, that small jump in your tummy at a fantastic light show, that sigh as you snuggle on the couch with a Hallmark movie That Christmassy feeling.

The Real Me On Turtle Island
I was putting together a mobile to use at a talk I was presenting at. My grandson helped me make it. There were 4 people on the mobile. I wanted to demonstrate how we are all effected by each other in a family, community or the country, no matter if it is addiction, or happy occasions. And how we will be effected throughout our life, even if we do not realize it. He wanted to make the mobile with a turtle. When I said that was a great idea as in our creation stories, we are told this country is on the back of a turtle. He liked the story and was even more excited about helping me.

What is Christmas to you?
Each of us has a personal passion for this holiday. We know and feel something magical, for sure, when we think of Christmas. Everyone could tell many stories that happened in time, from this magical period, certain emotions being related to the smell, the cold or the immaculate white of the snow, the warmth of the houses and the love of those around.

Returning to a Golden State
I am an immigrant to the strange state of Connecticut, even though I’ve lived here for over a decade. Sometimes, I don’t know how to react to people who make assumptions about me — about my background, my race, my kids, my job, my interests. I feel like a foreigner when searching out those who have a similar background to mine, because I seldom find any hapa who were raised with the Asian side of their family, like I was in California.
