Top Songs of 2024
Here are my top songs of 2024 so far...
It's Mid September. I am getting over some allergies, that have been activated by dog sitting, over this weekend. So I decided to take to the page.
Anyways, it made me reflect on top songs that I keep coming back to this year, that I wanted to share with you all. I hope some of them speak to you. I hope it makes you reflect also on your relationship with music and sound. While these are not songs that were released this year, they somewhat capture the essence of the year at least for me. Here goes, in no particular order:
1. "No Angels" - Justin Timberlake
Okayyy. So the whole album "Everything I thought it was", is fire. Maybe that's just me, because I'm biased when it comes to JT. I've been a fan of him since I was 12 and I am now 27. LOL. But this song makes me wanna dance all the time I hear it. It's funky. It's groovy. You can play and have fun with it. Listen to it. It will be bound to bring your spirits up. And make you dance.
2. "One of the girls" - Sped Up - The Weeknd, JENNIE, Lily Rose Depp
This is a whole different vibe. It will be at night. You're maybe a few drinks in - at a good pace - not obliterated or maybe you are. It's sexy. You're feeling yourself. You're going to places you've been, showing off, showing off sides of you that are extreme and what you enjoy. There's an original song, but this sped up version slaps (no pun intended...or maybe haha). It's taken from the show "The Idol", that premiered last year 2023. Now people have their opinions on it, and the reviews are harsh. But the music, surprisingly is a little bit better than show. Have a listen, and get transported.
3. "Dancing in the flames" - The Weeknd
And we are back to The Weeknd. I've been a huge fan of him since 2015. He's evolved and grown so much, as a creative. This song gives Ariana Grande "We can't be friends". In my opinion, I feel like there's a flame between them, that their afraid to explore, and if they do, then their dancing in the flames. Crossing a threshold. Another threshold. Aside from a metaphorical meaning, it is actually a good song. There's some Michael Jackson essence in there too. Listen to the acoustic version as well.
4. "Daughter" - Beyonce
Oof. This song. It's heavy. It's weighted. But honest. Something about the haunting vocals in the background, and acoustic guitar. It's eerie. A different side of Bey, that we don't get to see. The imagery is inviting you into a world of maybe abuse and reclaiming power, after processing. And well sitting with feelings.
5. "Chicago" - Michael Jackson
This song is from his posthumous album released in 2014. But something about this song, is somewhat relevant. It was remixed by Timbaland, to my knowledge and other producers. It describes the story of a girl playing him in Chicago, telling him that she's lonely, and wants him, but yet she's married and has kids. He falls for her, but his vocals....hmmm. The whole album Xscape is quite good, as are the original songs. Even though I am in a romantic relationship, I feel like I'm in other romantic relationships with other people (more on that soon)
6. "RIDIN" - Jessie Reyez with Lil Wayne
Okay. This song, gets me all the time. I sometimes feel like in another lifetime, I'm meant to be a singer and carefree artist, who roams the earth like flowerchild, a free spirit. That's what I see Jessie as. And she's also from Toronto so... Canada represent!
But this song, is a driving song. So light that joint. Roll your windows down. Let the wind in. Breathe. Allow yourself to feel. Whether or not you have a partner or not, explore yourself, or imagine.
SO those are it for now...perhaps part 2 is coming soon. I yearn to share more to connect more.
Happy reading and reflecting.
Talk soon xx.
