Shasha and the Leopard King

Children's Fantasy

By Angel AguilarPublished 8 months ago 2 min read

Note: This is for my children's picture book. That's why it's very short. It is also unedited.

The Forest smelled like frosted Scones from a bakery, sweet and buttery. Shasha could see the oozing cotton candy smelling from each tree's branches, forming a rain puddle around them. As Shasha walks through the forest, she heard something.

Something with a high-pitched squeaky voice. “Who are you?”

“I’m Shasha, and you?” Shasha replied as she tiptoed around the tree, she heard the voice come from.

“I’m Bubbles and my favorite color is bright orange.”

“That’s a nice color. Why are you in the forest?” Shasha asked.

Bubbles said. “I am here to help you find your mother.”

Shasha took a step backwards and with a furrowed brow she replied.

“How did you know that? Do you know where she is?”

Bubbles came out from the side of the tree and Shasha did the same. To Shasha’s surprise, Bubbles was a powdered white frog.

“You're a frog?” Shasha asked.

“You have a problem with me being a frog?”

“No, not at all but I was just surprised.”

“Shasha, your mother, Lisa is in danger, you must save her from the Leopard King.”

“Who is he and What has he done to her?” Shasha asked.

“The Leopard king is the ruler of the entire Forest. He stands tall, with sharp claws.

Shasha couldn’t believe what she heard.

“What does he want with my mother?” Shasha asked.

“He wanted to stop her from restoring the forest back to the fairies. Now that you’re here, you can help!

“What do I have to do?”

“You have to follow the sounds of the blue bats. It will Lead you to your mother.” Said Bubbles.

“I will help her.” Shasha said, clutching both of her fists.

“I’m coming with you.” Said Bubbles with a gleam in her eyes.

Shasha and Bubbles decided to go through the pink Forest and Shasha smelled the forest change. It then smelled like a woodsy, musky scent. She heard the bats from above flying around in circles. Shasha looked up and saw her mother tangled in cherry red vines with thorns edged branches.

“Mom it’s me, Shasha.” She whispered.

“What are you doing here?” Her mother said.

“Bubbles and I came to save you.”

Bubbles belched a loud ribbit by accident and it alarmed the Leopard King.

“It looks like I have visitors.” Said the Leopard King walking up to the throne made out of black wood.

Shasha pulled off the vines with her hands as fast as she could.

“Yes, yes, yes.” Said Bubbles with a sparkle in her eyes.

“You foolish girl.” Said the Leopard King.

“Mom, we have to leave fast.”

“I know my way out, but it won’t be easy.” Her mother said.

They each passed by the Leopard King and the blue bats. Shasha stood in front and took out her pink sword and sparkles came out. It shone like a diamond, bright and beautiful.

“Noooo.” Said the Leopard King.

With both of her hands holding the sword, Shasha yelled out.

"Let's get out of her, now!"

The three of them passed the Leopard King and the blue bats.

The forest was saved and so were they!

This is a fun story! The descriptions of the forest smells are really vivid. I like how Shasha's character is quickly set up. But I'm a bit confused about the Leopard King's motives. Why does he care so much about the fairies restoring the forest? And how will Shasha and Bubbles actually defeat him? Can't wait to see how it unfolds.
