Moriarty Should Have Been Alive for the Final Season of Sherlock

There is one theory that could have worked for the final season.

The Sherlock BBC show has been over for almost a decade now, and the final season received a lot of mixed reactions. While I was thrilled with the final installment, there was one major thing that I felt should have been included in the final season. I kept expecting Moriarty to return. And yes, I know that his character did die in season 2, but there was one theory that I thought was genius.

What if Moriarty had a secret twin brother?

And what if he was the one who shot himself on the rooftop with Sherlock during the season finale of season 2?

This theory does sound dumb, but this theory actually makes a lot of sense.

And it's all thanks to a running gag in the show between Sherlock and John.

During some cases that Sherlock and John are trying to solve, John sometimes assumes that twins are involved in a crime. Sherlock always reassures John that 'it's never twins,' and I honestly thought this gag was somehow going to play a part in the final episode in season 4. Fans strongly believed that Moriarty had a secret twin brother, and that the real Moriarty was actually still alive.

This theory could have easily been explained, because in some parts of the show, Moriarty comes off a bit more crazy in some scenes. Even though this twist would have been kind of cliche, I'm sure that fans would have gobbled up this twist, because it would have been easy to explain, and Sherlock would have wrong for ONCE. Imagine Sherlock's reaction, when he realizes that his sidekick solved the biggest case they have ever tackled. It would have been a genius TWIST.

And this kind of comedy gag could have worked for the show, because there were quite a few moments of hilarity between the main duo! I would have killed to have seen Sherlock freak out over John being right for once.

This theory could have worked pretty great in the final season, and this other character could have made this twist work!

Mycroft, Sherlock's brother, had insisted there was another secret sibling among the Holmes family.

Mycroft had hinted to the viewers about a secret sibling that the Holmes family had, and that apparently something happened to them. Even though I was hoping for another brother, I thought the sister twist still worked for the final season. I was a little mixed on one twist in season 4, with the sister somehow manipulating Moriarty to go after Sherlock.

I got to be honest, that amazing reveal with Moriarty showing up to the facility where the sister was being held was awesome…and then it was torn away from us when that scene had taken place several years before. That was so stupid on the writer's end in my opinion, the thought of the entire facility getting taken over, and capturing Mycroft, Sherlock, and John would have been an amazing, tense final episode.

The final heroes would have been caught in a struggle of survival, trying to take down Moriarty and his army. Imagine how satisfying that would have been for all of the fans. We would have been freaking out so bad, wondering if either of them was going to die. This is where they could have killed off Sherlock. Like in the original tale of The Final Problem, Sherlock could have ended his life for real this time, to save his best friend and brother.

Or maybe Mycroft could have died to save both of them, because like Mycroft had hinted beforehand, Sherlock's death would have destroyed him.

How do you think Sherlock should have ended? Were you happy with the ending? Or were you hoping for something different?
