Clearly a satire that many take to be true love. Wherefore art thou Romeo? He should have checked to see if she was breathing before offing himself; these poor children lost in the haze of a first love, or was it lust? Mercutio was just collateral damage, in this tale.

I love that you see this as satire. Finally someone who thinks like me, lol!
My daughter just read the abridged version and her jaw was on the floor. 🤣 She was like “that was drastic!”
I feel like the only one who’s never read this or knows the story (other than the absolute basics I’ve picked up from common references over the years 🙈). The only book I recall ever reading in English in high school was of mice and men. No idea what we did for the other years 🤔 we definitely never learned about Shakespeare or any of the ‘classics’ I see commonly mentioned.
Brilliant! You saw the satirical heart in this interesting romantic parable!
I have read and re-read Romeo & Juliet and seen so many iterations of it that I’m not even sure why it’s considered to be one of Shakespeare’s “best.” It’s tragic. It’s supposed to be, but it also hinges on the very real consequences of young love and not using sense within. Not to mention the whole thing of them offing themselves because their parents wouldn’t approve. I have also seen and loved West Side Story, but it’s basically Romeo & Juliet.
I did the play when I was in high school. Great memories

The last line is so true!!
Good critique. I mean, it's more an anti-war thing and there are some seriously dodgy things about Romeo and Juliet's relationship before all the double suicide thing. Love your critique, though, Jazzy!
psst I think collateral has 2 l's-last line on Mercutio
Ya when I was a kid my mind perceived that it was a flawed story. Great point on the lust part and how Romeo should have checked before drinking poison. Nice critique
