Pulp Fiction
A Controversial Critique...No apologies. I will stand on this hill.

Shocking but fun with a sublime soundtrack. Overhyped, but stylish and quotable. Pulp Fiction, in hindsight, is not the masterpiece many thought it was. The inspiration for a million and one knockoffs. A career best for John Travolta, though not even close to being Tarantino's finest film. Watch Inglorious instead.

Interesting you did this. I was gonna do Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2, my personal favorite. But I would need more than 50 words to explain why that film means so much to me. I had a stripper persona based on Mia when I lived in Guam. I went by that name, since it’s so close to my birth name. I had a wig just like that I wore. She made me a lot of money.
I don't remember much about the film except the adrenalin shot in the heart. That was the shock moment in the film for me.
Tarantino's BEST has got to be Jackie Brown, but Inglourious Basterds is one of my favorites. It's always hard to pick the best, though; each is unique and highlights different talents, imo. This one was a great braided story; I love Bruce Willis' arc so much. I dunno. I can't agree or disagree with you here, lol!
I have no idea what you're talking about but I'll agree with you Sir Paul Shakespeare! 🍩🥐
I would agree with all but the idea that this was Travolta's best. Most definitely it was one of his best, but "Faceoff" has to be considered a strong contender. In Pulp Fiction, the writing & direction were good enough that most of the time all he had to do was react (which he did incredibly well). Having to transform himself from hero to villain, from decency to pure malevolence, from John Travolta restrained to Nicholas Cage fully unhinged required some chops (& incredible performances on both their parts). And in "Grease" he had to sing & dance & be willing to look silly. In "Pulp Fiction" he basically just had to do a little reluctant dancing at nowhere near the same level, lol.
I did not think it was his best, either, but I think he really got the bloody ball rolling here... Fair points made.
Agreed.
It was good at the time, being young, like whoaaa. It was its own for sure and that stab in the heart. My word. Stand on that hill P.
I enjoyed this movie but I definitely missed the point if there even was one. The quotes are amazing! I especially love the line "I don't remember asking you a goddamn thing" I'm partial to the Hateful 8 and Django Unchained personally. Those are my favourite of his films
Nice 👍❤️
Great review. I did like this one, though.
Agreed 🙃
😂😂😂 oh we fightin now, this is one of my top 4 Tarantinos.
Sooo strange. I got a notification through my phone for this being posted… I open the app and browser… and you are nowhere to be seen on my feed! And I’m suddenly not subscribed?! But if I wasn’t, how did I get the notification?! Soooo odd! Love the critique and I’m highly inclined to agree. Inglorious was genius but ohhhh so brutal. I couldn’t watch it now… way too sensitive! That was back in my flesh eating and alcohol days 🙈✨
I love the "Watch instead" advice at the end, and I concur!
I literally haven’t watched for many years, but with some of his other filmography I’ve found they don’t always play as well on repeated viewings.. I do like Inglorious Basterds though and have seen it a few times. Were you keen on ….Hollywood? I just wanted that movie to end! 😆
LOVE Tarantino, and I agree that Inglorious Bastards is better than Pulp Fiction. Having said that, the narrative structure of PF was groundbreaking, and Travolta and Jackson were badass. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood smokes them all, though! Great critique, MC Paul!
